MUni Thief Arrested!!

Whooopeeeeeeeeeeee! I got my babies back!

I don’t know if the guy arrested was the actual thief, but he was in possession
of stolen property and that’s what he was arrested for.

Who do I have to thank? The fine folks at Deno’s Cyclery, Inc. in Sacramento.
ALL UNICYCLISTS SHOULD SHOP THERE IF THEY LIVE CLOSE ENOUGH! (Two locations, one
at Watt and Marconi, the other at 5800 Antelope near Roseville Rd.

Like all the Sacramento area bike shops, I called them after the theft, to warn
them to look out for any unusual looking unicycles. Bike shop people are really
cool. They kept a note with the unicycles on it behind their counter, where only
they could see it.

This morning, Jeramy Berham, of 2753 Del Paso Blvd, Sacramento, came in to get
his BMX bike looked at. It needed new cranks. He came in later with two
unicycles, saying maybe the cranks from the chrome one could be swapped to his.
If the shop could do this, he would let them keep the other (carbon fiber) one.

They asked him to leave the cycles, then called me. Jeramy is innocent until
proven guilty. The fact that he returned to the bike shop when he knew the
police where there lends him some credit. He claims to have bought them for $150
recently. So why give one away for a pair of cranks? Well, those Profile cranks
are expensive…

Anyway I GOT MY BABIES BACK!!! I’m so happy. And somebody washed them in the
process, so they’re nice and clean, and undamaged!

Meanwhile, the house now has an alarm system, and the car will soon. Now we just
need a big motion light on the garage…

Thanks. And my heart goes out to all the others out there who’s unicycles are
still missing. Including my 1981 Miyata, stolen with my car in 1983.

The advantage of having unicycles that really stand out: they’re easy to spot
if stolen.

The disadvantage of having unicycles that really stand out: they’re a bitch to
replace. The red Miyata seat and uni-pivot seat posts would have been the
hardest part…

Great News! I’m glad you got them back this time. There still maybe help for the
other stolen Unis.

Re: MUni Thief Arrested!!

John,

Glad justice was served and you got your MUnis back. Given the nature of
the crime your situation is rare indeed. Calling the bike shops was
smart. Good luck and happy riding.
