muni purchase advice

Are either of these worth buying for muniing, if I already own a standard
24" Schwinn?

Also, is a larger tire better for muni? I figured a 20" would be best
since it’s much lighter, but I can’t find any on unicyclesource.com. I
can’t get anything that’s much more than $200.

Hi Jim.

There aren’t many respectable 20-inch off-road tires (other than Monty,
which is technically a 19-inch tire, and will fit only on Monty rims). The
best we’ve found is a mild 20 x 2.1 BMX-style with small knobs, which is
just barely better than a street tire. For decent off-road fat tires
you’ll need to look at the 24-inch size.

If your tire measures 24 x 1.75, there are several great off-road
tires available. If your Schwinn tire is 24 x 1-3/4 or 24 x 1-3/8, you
have an early model (S5 or S7) and you’ll have trouble finding any
off-road tire for
it.

Here’s a link to one of the Schwinn off-road cycles on our new site:

Here’s an affordable Kenda Kolossal 24 x 2.6 tire that we routinely put on
Schwinn’s:

Please let us know if you need more information.

Thanks, that helped.

Could you explain to me the difference between the “Schwinn 24-inch with
Nokian Gazzaloddi 24 x 2.6 DH Tire” and the “Schwinn 24 x 2.6 trail
cycle” ? Is it just the tire? Is the Nokian Gazzaloddi unicycle worth the
extra $40?

Jim,

The Schwinn Trail Cycle has a Kenda Kenetic 24 x 2.6 It’s good but
not the best.

We’ve tried many tires and we keep coming back to the Nokian Gazzaloddi
series (that appears to have been first discovered in our community by
Bruce Bundy. If the folklore is correct, Bruce called the tech guys at
Dirt Rag Magazine and they recommended the 24 x 3 Gazzaloddi as best for
off-road.)

The 24 x 2.6 (Gazz Jr.) is the best in its class with the most agressive
tread pattern we’ve found. Whether it’s worth the additional $40 is
relative. When you’re attempting the big side-hop onto a fallen tree with
no bark, that little extra width of rubber can make the difference between
landing on and landing badly. It’s worth the difference to me.

John,

It’s probably tough to put a finger on but what are the subtle differences
between the Kenetic and the Gazz Jr.
