Muni documentary on AXN TV...

This morning, while searching for something to watch, I came across a muni documentary on AXN which is one of those extreme video shows (or something like that). It was really entertaining and went for about 2 and a half minutes. They also did a bit of street riding.

I don’t know if they post here, but it featured Geoffrey Faraghan, Rob Bowman, and a guy who resembled Nathan Hoover and rode a similar muni. There was one other guy who wasn’t named. One of them tacoed a 26" (I think) wheel doing a drop from a higher than usual bench.

I thought it was a great representation of muni and very entertaining. They all looked like they were really enjoying themselves. There was just one thing that I didn’t agree with. One of them said, “Notice how he’s using his right hand to grab the front on his seat. That gives you extra pull on the uphills. Unfortunately it also decreases your balance by 50%.” Another thing I found interesting was that in the 2.5mins, the word ‘muni’ wasn’t mentioned at all.

Great work whoever you guys are!

Re: Muni documentary on AXN TV…

Wow, that’s amazing that is still being shown. It’s a short documentary made
in Sept 1998 for ActionTV in Santa Cruz. It’s the second one we did. That 2
1/2 minutes took over 10 hours to shoot. The screen shot you captured shows
Rob Bowman on his old Schwinn, Geoff Faraghan on the first Telford, Bruce
Bundy on giraffe, and myself. Bruce was the one who tacoed his wheel - this
was pre-Gazz and downhill rims. He was riding a Hunter with a 700x45c wheel;
we would call it a 28" now. I don’t remember if we used the word Muni back
then - I think so.

What Geoff meant about decreasing your balance by 50% was that you lose one
arm’s worth of flailing. We “swam” a lot back then as we hadn’t developed
what I call “steer-ability” yet! Glad you liked it.
