I cant believe this hasn’t been posted yet!
The MSC Napoli has been beached at Branscombe in Devon and has dropped almost 200 containers into the sea. A number of the containers have been washed up onto the beach and people are scavenging the cargo inside them.
50 BMW motorbikes have been taken from the beach along with barrels of wine, perfume, brand new car parts and babies nappies.
What do you think to the scavengers?
Personally, I don’t have a problem with it. If I were there I would be trying to get some freebies too. Some people have been saying that it is stealing, I think that if it is washed up on the beach it is fair game!
under the merchant shipping act all items recovered still belong to thier original owner. the public known as ‘salvers’ in these cases, can help themselves to goods off the beach, but they must notify the official Receiver of Wreck - an employee of the Maritime and Coastgaurd Agency.
The Police have been handing out forms to salvers at the beach and if the insurance company wants them back they must give the salvers a reward.
Personally i’d be down there in a jiffy to sell it all on EBAY.
