I recently got a new camera, not to impressed with it, and it records everything to mp4. my media player wont play the files, and I dont know of an editing program that can work with this format. So basically I am wondering if anyone knows of a good decorder for the vids, and does anyone have a recommendation for editing software?

Its free, opensource and will do just about anything. Most gui’s and tools actually use it as the backend. There are some very good free window frontends for it. Just do some googling for them.
