What’s a “movie maker?” It would help if you would specify what it is that you are trying to do. Are you trying to compress video, edit video, change video formats, or author DVD’s?

Do you have Windows Movie Maker 2? I think it serves all the basic purposes, and if you’re keen enough to want something better then you shouldn’t be too bothered paying $100 for something like Vegas Movie Studio (what I use…it’s great). If you make quite a few movies, I think it’s more than worth saving for.
There’s a recent thread on the subject by ‘treepotato’ you should search for.
