motorcycle wheel

A friend of mine in Thailand has just made a unicycle with a motorcycle wheel. Attached it the picture (it is the one on the left).

I look forward to riding it later this year.

Re: motorcycle wheel

Looks very heavy but interesting. How does it ride? What pressure does he
use? What is the advantage over say a 24x3 bike tire? Or is it just a
novelty cycle?

Thanks for pointing that out. When are you going to Thailand? Does that fact that you’re now a registered member mean you’ll be visiting the site and posting here more often?

I bet it would be hard to get that wheel out of true! Tell us when you try a 15 foot drop on it.

i’ve thought about making a 20" uni with a small 20" motorcycle wheel. i think i would lace it up to a standard uni hub but i might need to enlarge the spoke holes on the hub.

im a bit strapped for cash at the minute (still payin for my trials uni) but i might make it next year.

i like the look of that motor-uni tho, the momentum in the heavy tyre will let you roll over lots of stuff:p

I think that Steve made the wheel for a few reasons.

  1. Steve is into old motorcycles
  2. I gave him a bunch of unicycle parts to make some unicycles and this is his idea of a funny joke. It made me laugh anyway.

I look forward to riding this thing in October.

I will let you all know how it rides.

What kind of frame did he use for that? Can we get some pics of the tire clearance?

Patience Grasshopper,

I will return from thailand with full details (in November).

It’s intersting to note that the first ultimate wheel on Japan (which I
learned to ride one) was made from a motorcycle wheel.
