I don’t normally listen to music when I’m riding.
Still catagorizing myself as a beginner, I feel that maybe I should be concentrating more on how to do things properly rather than enjoying myself with the luxury of music when I ride.
But today was a beautiful day, so I thought I’d take out the portable Discman with me (Yeah, go on kids, laugh away with your I-pod thingies, I don’t care).
My music of choice was the Foo Fighters ‘In Your Honour’.
By God did it do the trick!
Currently MOPE has been a hill just after the local park. The park in itself was difficult enough. Normally I take the easy tarmac path around it, but today I thought, “Sod it,” and tried to go across the field. Well, much to my surprise (and to the crowd watching the cricket match too) I made it across the field in one go. Around the cricket changing rooms too.
And then for the hill.
I’ve tried this hill before, and I always UPD after around ten or so feet. The whole hill is around 40 feet.
I was approaching the hill and expecting similar results to my normal efforts when track three started playing in my ears.
‘The Best Of You.’
Man, there was something about that track that just made be get my game face on and say, “Not this time.”
Before I knew it, and before the song was halfway through, I was at the top.
Unbelievable!
I think they should play this song to the England squad before they play their matches in the World Cup.
i dont do music anymore, though its a great motivator. i think of those that i have known that arent with me anymore, the problems i have personally, my dad who i dont get along with, and a bunch of people that have claimed to be my friends and left me, and girlfriend after girlfriend that just leave you for no reason and break your heart…all that just drives me to push it…anyways yea music can be a great motivator, and i would, but both my mp3 players broke back to back…the good luck just seems to follow me huh.
Ummm… well I don’t know my CD players and MP3 players are all broken or have been stolen and I guess any song by Die Prinzen, Rush, STYX, or Greg Simpson. Now I just take all the frustration and negativity from the day and put it into my riding.
Yeah, no offense or anything, but I would get disappointed when you dismounted to walk up some of those hills that I wanted to try and scale (this of course being before I turned into a walking raisin).
As far as motivation is concerned…honestly, all I really need for motivation is thinking about how I’ll feel after I nail whatever I’m trying to do. And usually, after I do succeed at something I’ve been working at, that feeling is very well worth it.
I used to listen to fast paced techno music, hours of adrenaline rushing music flowing into my ears getting me more pumped to do anything.
But seeing how I have broke about 3 cd players, and dont have an mp3 player, now i just think of my girlfriend and that motivates me, to just think that im jumping this 10-set for her, it works. =p Or when I am riding with friends, I am motivated, to push myself, push them, and have fun.
the weather has been so nice. it kills me, all i can do is sit and stare and my broken uni.
ugh.
anyways, good tunes while riding. for muni i like to listen to some marley or other reggae, it’s really fun to go bombing through forests listening to chill music. It is very relaxing. I guess it depends on my mood though, i like to bust out some thrash punk every once in a while while riding. it adds to the adrenaline
No one’s stopping you from going around me.
And no offense or anything, but when you turned into a walking raisin, you got really boring. Dehydration is no excuse.
