More Crank Faliure

Today I was about to leave my friends house and I decided to ride off his
back deck. the deck was about a foot and a half. When I landed my Crank
Arm Snapped. it snapped in a similar way to that Lasco Cranks that was
reported a few days ago but an inch or two closer to the

axle/hub/spindle assembly. This crank had been through about 10 two and a
half foot drops without any sign of damage. too bad. Well I guess I will
have to get some new ones, or go back to the Black Widows. Are the Kooka
Cranks worth getting? Any others that last a long time?

Hey Max,

About the Kooka Downhill cranks … so far I have no complaints and
they are still straight. However, I’ve only been riding on them for 2
weeks, so it’s still a little early to tell how they’ll hold up. I’ll
keep you posted.

Kooka offers three cranksets. Cross-Country, Downhill and Freeride. The
cranks used for the Downhill and Freeride cranksets are identical. The
only difference between the sets is the spider (which is removable) and
price (the freeride set is a little bit more expensive). I went for the
Downhill set, as opposed to the Cross-country set, as they are beefier
(thus stronger) and have an “Unconditional Lifetime Warranty”, which might
come in handy.

The Kooka cranks are about $50US more expensive than the Black Widows,
but for an Unconditional Lifetime Warranty and beefier cranks I think
it’s worth
it.

Thanks for the tip, Carl.

I don’t suppose anyone knows a good place to mail order Koodas in the US?
An unconditional lifetime warrenty makes these worth serious
consideration.

Indeed it does. Maybe if they hold up for a month or so without any
apparent damage and they might be worth getting.
