Monty unicycle tire question

Hi,

A while back a few people mentioned/reviewed a tire similar to the Monty
tire, but it was a 20" tire. What was the name of it again?

Thanks,

Kris.

Onza are the main alternative, but there are at least 2 others that seam
to use the same tool as the Onza and re-brand. Unfortunately I have
mislaid my bit of paper with their names on.

I believe the tire was the Onza 20x2.5". There’s a pic at
http://www.onzabikes.com/SiteFiles/HTML/index2.html and the tread pattern
looks very similar to the Monty.

Someone on the newsgroup (Unicycle Source Uk) said it fits the Monty rim
better than the Monty tire, and was designed by the same guy that did the
Monty tire. It fits a 16" rim. Onza’s site says it costs 17 British pounds
but I’m sure it doesn’t weight that much.

I wrote Monty for specs on the tire and they didn’t give me
anything useful.

As for tires that fit on more standard 20" rims, I’ve seen: Maxxis
HollyRoller: 20x2.2 Maxxis MaxxDaddy: 20x2.25 Kenda Wide Track: 20x2.25"
Kenda Kontact: 20x2.25"

Yep twas I

I do not know if they are designed by the same guy but they are very
similar. They are a tad smaller.

It appears to be a higher quality moulding than the Monty - but also looks
slightly less aggressive when you see them next to each other.

Cost - in the UK they are cheaper than Monty.

Availability - None available, I have just talked to the importer and they
are due in to me in 2 weeks time.

sizes - there is 2 ways (at least) to measure the size of tyres. I would
guess that most BMX tyres measure on the method that give the size at
about 20% below what you would expect, the Onza and Monty are giving 100%
and 110% respectively. I have had it explained to me but it was so boring
I have forgotten.

Has anyone tried fitting an Onza tyre on to a Monty rim? The tyre does
look the right size I believe but I’m wondering if anyone’s actually done
it and whether the Onza fits.

Cheers, Neil

I’ll try it tomorrow when I should have some Monty tyres in the post.
(they both say 387mm Bead)

The Monty tyre flops onto its Rim easily. The Onza tyre … we’ll I’ve
never been able to get one off it’s rim.

I posted this to Kris in reply to his original query but thought it wont
hurt to let the whole world in on the details…

…just incase you need to know the ONZA size to work out whether it’ll
fit under a frame (which is the game I’m playing with a giraffe),
apparently the it is slightly smaller than the monty - this is data from
two people I got for the ONZA.

> the widest tyre width in mm

64/65mm

> and the radius from centre of axle to tyre extremity in mm?

262-265mm

> (maybe you can tell me the radius at which the fattest part occurs too)

225-244mm
