Monocycle (was Re: No Subject)

How about a standing monocycle? This is the monocycle’s manpowered friend.
It’s a large (6’ or so) wheel, with a platform on the side of it (the wheel
looks like a normal bike or uni wheel, just very large). The platform is
able to slide freely along the outside of the wheel, so that you’re weight
should keep the platform down. To go anywhere, you simply grap the spokes
and push in the appropriate direction. I can’t remember where I saw a
picture of one. I’m not very good at explaining an object, so, if anyone
knows what I’m talking about, please help!

Could this be the Suncycle? I think I remember seeing something like that
before, and I"m pretty sure it’s the Suncycle. Not to be confused with
SEMcycle.

Wow! I remember this site. They still haven’t got the English side up.

It looks like a really interesting ride, but quite dangerous. Down a hill you’ll
have lots of fun bringing it to a stop! Plus, you’re in danger of knuckles or a
face full of spokes at any moment, it looks like…

But I’d love to see one live, to see how it really works.

I asked a russian friend to give me an idea of what they were telling : it seems
they do not give much details… It is still possible to look a the photo album,
but it doesn’t show any downhill rides… (though it should be easy to adapt
some brakes to it I guess) I still wonder how he propels himself, like a
skateboard, pushing the pavement with his foot? that’s not funny!!

Just grap the spokes and push in the appropriate direction!

That might be a bad strategy for slowing down, though…

Yep, that seems to be a good-bye mister fingers way, isn’t it! for going forward
too, in fact, because if you remember there are three ‘spokes’ maintaining the
wheel and the plateform, and these do not move, so you won’t have much space to
push the spokes… anyone going to russia soon?
