monitor advice

When looking at monitors, generally what is a good dot pitch? .28, .26
? Which is better, what should I look for, and how big is the
difference?

Any advice is appreciated…

Viewsonic’s 22" 225f and 225fb are among current most-recommended for CAD
work (highest honor for a monitor pretty much). They are available new $650
and refurbished $430.

I’ll be buying a total of 6 for me and my office.

I think their dot pitch is .24. Industry standard nowdays is .24 and below
on smaller screens. Keep in mind that DiamondTron and Trinitron measure
differently. Read www.cadalyst.com for more details on current monitors.

Unbelievable for a 22", right?

Re: monitor advice

On a related topic, what are considered good specs (refresh rate, dot pitch,
etc ) for a 17-inch LCD?

Yeah, this is actually what I’m looking for myself - I should have
mentioned it.

Re: monitor advice

www.tomshardware.com I think there were a couple really good reviews on
LCDs. Might have been 15 in that I saw but they might have 17 in. reviews
also. I got the drift that with LCDs, numbers are only so good and can be
very misleading.

Re: monitor advice

I’ve read that, when it comes down to it, LCDs are still way beind CRT
monitors in quality (meaning crisp, bright pictures).

Re: monitor advice

Funny I had to research LCDs a few weeks ago, 17" models in particular…

We recently got new monitors at work, I wanted a CRT since I do quite a
bit of graphics work, but due to space constraints I had to go for an
LCD, I got a ViewSonic VG750, It is SWEET. High Contrast Ratio, Bright,
17.4" viewable screen, first LCD I have used that seems to look right
when doing Graphics, Print in particular(Besides my TiBook screen…).
You can find them for ~$700, Well worth the cost.

(Of course I have yet to see a bad ViewSonic monitor so I shouldn’t have
been surprised  )

I also read that I can’t run my monitor at 800x600 on an LCD? Does that mean
I have to have everything tiny?

Not nessecarrily, Depending on your OS/Monitor, You can turn down the
resolution (17" LCD native is 1280x1024) but things get kinda fuzzy
since it has to interpolate the signal, It’s literaly like taking an
800x600 image in an image editor, stretching it to 1280x1024 and then
running a couple Gausian blurs to smooth out the jaggies. Best
suggestion if you are using Windows is to turn up the font size in the
Advanced section of the display control panel. Supposedly WinXP has
ClearType which makes things better for LCD users but I havent used it.

Re: monitor advice

How does this one look : http://tinyurl.com/22dy

I might be able to get it relatively cheap.
Are these specs good?
