“Parker rides a commuter unicycle with 29-inch wheels…”
How many of those?
I think it’s great that a magazine article about a unicyclist in Vancouver can get all the way to the end without needing to mention Kris Holm. It means unicycling is growing in Vancouver!
I read it in print in Eugene. It mentioned a few different unicyclers.
I hate to break it to you John, but that article was ran on the same page as this one: http://www.momentumplanet.com/features/singular-vehicle in the print version. Mentions Kris Holm, this website, the Hoovers, and a few others.
That second article was very well written. I was also surprised to find it linked to this article: http://www.theatlantic.com/past/docs/issues/97apr/uni.htm
Now that brought back memories! I remember reading that way back in 97 and getting excited about the possibilities of offroad riding. At the time I was just starting to explore my local trails. I like the last paragraph where it states “The sport is nearly certain to stay tiny”. My how we’ve grown! I seem to recall RSU had about a dozen posts a week back then.
Hmmm… “it took him a week to master the unicycle.”
Haha, exactly what I thought. Has anyone ever truly “mastered” the unicycle?
Well, other then John Foss?
Oh well. But hey, that’s even more press for unicycling!
Okay Scott, what do you mean by that? I really need to get back into trying to master the thing. I’m tired of watching others ride down piles of rocks I don’t dare to…
Hey John,
It seems like you have been riding unicycles at a high level and pushing the sport for more years than many riders have been alive. Being a relatively newcomer to unicycling, it is nice to see you encouraging young riders and acting as a role model.
I recall one famous rider exclaiming, “Idling and backwards are “core” skills of unicycling, yet it’s amazing how few expert riders can barely ride a smooth circle backwards!”
Taking these words to heart, and am working on my core skills. There is always more to learn.
So what do you do after you have mastered all 10 (or 11!?) USA skill levels? I mean, what goals do you have other than falling down piles of rocks and breaking bones?
