Has anyone done this before?
It would be good to hear of people’s experience before I go to all that work
to find out that it will not work.

Re: Miyate Handle on a Semcycle Seat
Yes, I’ve done it. It works all right. I just drilled holes in the metal plate
of the seat, cut out a bit of the seat cover, and jammed the Miyata handle over
the front. It’s not especially pretty, but it works fine.

Re: Miyate Handle on a Semcycle Seat
I put Miyata handles on a Viscount saddle and an old Schwinn saddle, which is
almost exactly the same as a Semcycle saddle. It was easier to get at the base
of the Sem type saddle since you don’t have to peal back the glued on vinyl and
foam. Simply line up the handle on the base, mark the place for the holes,
drill them out, bolt the handle on. You may have to trim away some of the
rubber cover to fit the handle in place. I used a Roach cover as the old rubber
cover was shot so I didn’t have to deal with that. The bottom of the handle
will be lower than the bottom of the saddle as the sides on the Miyata saddle
are deeper than the Viscount or the Sem. I haven’t found that to be a problem
though.
I had an extra Miyata handle because I replaced the one I had on my Muni with a
Reeder handle. Putting the Miyata handle on the Viscount saddle made it more
useful, but to tell you the truth I think the Reeder handle is much better.
Good Luck,

I’m wondering something similar – has anyone ripped apart a Viscount saddle and put a Roach cover and air tube on it? If so, I’d love to hear how it turned out!
Re: Miyate Handle on a Semcycle Seat
The vinyl cover and foam rubber are glued together on a Viscount saddle. If
you pull the bumpers, cover and foam off you are left with a metal plate.
It would be easy to make an air seat from that with a roach cover. The
Viscount bumpers are held in place (usually only temporarily) with sheet
metal screws that screw into a tab that is part of the metal base. If you
are going to the expense of getting a Roach cover I would recommend
replacing the front bumper with something more useful and reliable, like a
Miyata or Reeder handle.
