Miyata - Website gone?

I happened to try going to Miyata’s website just now (It’s been some time
since I was last there. I’ve been a bit out of touch). The URL that I
have is www.miyatausa.com, but all that comes up is a bunch of porn links
and the notice that “This Domain is For Sale - Click Here to Buy this
Domain Name.” Does Miyata still have a site? Are they still in business?
What’s up?

That was the site of the distributers of Miyata unicycles in the USA.
Miyata unicycles are now distributed by Unicycle Source.

Ouch! What an evil bunch of popup windows that site created! Or maybe that
was when I tried “www.miyata.com”. Do not go to either of these links if
you’re interested in cycling!

Miyata is still very much in business. However in the United States they
have only been operating on a “parts” basis for years. They stopped
importing bikes in I think 1993. Since then, they have managed to treat
the unicycles as “parts” and keep bringing them in.

You can still order Miyata unicycles through www.unicycle.com. I don’t
know the details, but I think Unicycle.com is now handling all the
unicycles that come in through the Miyata USA importer.

I will now search through my own Web site for any occurrences of
miyatausa.com” or “miyata.com” to keep innocent unicyclists from
being offended.

To all Uni webmasters. Please remove any link you may have to
http://www.miyatausa.com because it is now has nothing to do with
unicycling.

And how did they do all those popup windows? I’m using Webwasher
(http://www.webwasher.com) which disables all advertising banners, script,
animation and popup windows. And it works against this site. But before I
disabled popup windows MiyataUSA.com really did give me a run for my
money. I really thought I was fast on a mouse!

Webwasher is free.

Maybe this explains why today I got a porn spam sent to a mail address
I’ve only ever used in unicycling contexts. -Tom

Splendid huh those pop-up windows? Webwasher is not preventing them
because they are no advertising banners as such, but spring from
Javascript code. Disable Javascript and you will have no pop-ups, and no
fine Javascript effects either, since of course Javascript can be used
benignly. Being fast on the mouse did not help in your case either,
because Javascript sees the event of closing a window which in inself
triggers opening a new one.

What always escapes me is how a (porn or any) webmaster can think that
this helps people to like their site, or spend money, or whatever it is
that they want people to lure into.
