Miyata air seat with Roach cover

I know the Miyata conversion has been done to death but please bear with me.
I’ve got a Blue Miyata seat and a Roach cover. Should I put a tube on top of the Miyata seat and then add the Roach cover or should I take the Miyata seat cover off, drill a hole, add a tube, foam gel etc. and then put the Roach cover on leaving the Miyata seat cover off?
thanx

I’d say take the Miyata cover off, and leave it off. Otherwise you’ll have a 6" thick sandwich of a saddle. Things will stay in place better if you put the air pillow right on the plastic base. You might put a bit of duct tape on the pillow too, it helped mine stay situated.

I wouldn’t mess with any other foam or gel, the air pillow is pretty comfortable as it is.

I am also doing the same conversion. Do I drill a hole in the bottom of the seat and position the tube valve so that it sticks out the hole so that I can air it up, or does the tube generally hold air enough so that I can enclose it completely? Also, I am assuming that the Roach cover slips over the seat and air pillow and I need to make holes in the bottom of the cover to allow the nuts to screw on to the screws. The Roach cover comes with some small straps that look like they were meant for laces, but this doesn’t look like it would stay on the seat very well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Seems to me there is a web site for this ( I just need the earl)
My ISP doesn’t store newsgroup articles for too long.

Please and thank you.

I drilled through the base and rear bumper to allow the valve to stick
out. I’ve had to adjust the pressure a few times, and I wouldn’t do it any
other way. I keep the cover on by tightening the laces so there’s a bit of
cover hanging over the bottom at the back side, and bolting down the rear
bumper over the cover. It hasn’t moved at all in about 2 months.

I did it the first way and I’m happy with it. It is
comfortable enough and the tube stays in place
with a little tape.

Go here for pics:

Some of the pics show that the tube is under
the cover, but I changed it afterwards. Try it
both ways and see what’s more comfortable.

Thanks for the EXCELLENT photographs!!

finally someone gets some pictures for harper.

Great pics, thanks.
