I just legally bought Microsoft Office Professional 2003 via my school district’s www.Journeyed.com student discount thing for $79.98, when it’s sold retail for over $500.
Yep, I just got a $500 product for $80. One word: w00t.
So if you’re in school, go to www.journeyed.com/select, pick your state, and see if your district is eligable for these discounts!
Office 97 and 2000 are no longer getting security updates. Any security bugs found are not being fixed in the older versions. That makes the old versions worth less than $10 if you’re interested in keeping your computer from being owned.
There are exploits that attack the Office file formats. If you get an MS Office document in an email attachment or a link to an online you can end up with an infected document that allows an atacker to own your computer. If you share documents with coworkers you have the same problem.
Powerpoint slides, Excel files, Word documents, they’re all vulnerable if you’re running an old version of Office.
a friend emails me a word document. I use mozilla suite as my email client, and I save the word document on my hard drive. I then open the word document in MS Word, which is prohibited by my firewall from accessing the internet.
Maestro, you need to get a clue and quit picking on me in my threads. You could have politely mentioned Open Office, without all the mean and harrassing additional garbage. I don’t put up with that kind of thing at all anymore. I shouldn’t have to ignore something like that because there should be none in the first place. Your post has been referred to Gilby via the harrassing post button.
Edit: This isn’t a vendetta against you, Ty… I would’ve posted the exact same response no matter who the original author was… I fly my anti-MS flag whenever I can.
Seriously, you had a much cooler head on your shoulders not one year ago… now you’re back to being all touchy… what gives?
Maybe it’s lack of coffee? I quit coffee at the end of the school year in June. Anyway, I just get edgy when you get all jiggy with my threads. But hey, we can be buddies. We good?
