Micro Machines: Tiny crank and tiny wheel Megathread

Yes, it’s more packable than larger wheels, but it’s actually a bit heavy due to its width. I wonder if a thinner and smaller ultimate wheel would be harder to ride. When it comes to UPD, it rolls away more easily than larger ones, so there’s still a chance of falling suddenly, which may cause me to land on my hands. However, I still feel quite confident riding without protection. That said, I feel much safer wearing a helmet while riding.

and your feet are slightly free from the wheel I reckon. I noticed with the 24" uni that the tire is wider than the rim, which makes it act like a brake. The 28" tire is nearly thinner than the rim.

I need to keep my shoes away from the tire so that it can roll smoothly. I also have ultimate wheels in sizes 20", 24", and 28", and I’ve realized that I also need to keep my legs away from the tire to achieve a smoother ride, which I still struggle with. By the way, I’ve found that a 10" wheels is more enjoyable since the larger wheels make my flat feet ache more quickly.

I’ve never had aching feet. Can’t you put bigger pedals on the larger wheels.
All that aches are my knee joints and thigh muscles. The latter just need training and I also found that with the right technique, you can sort of relax while riding and with that ride longer.
For a few weeks my right knee has been very painful and just stepping on the UW gives a jolt of pain. I also had this some years ago when I gave riding UW my 100%, basically overexerting it.

I’m not sure if it’s because of my flat feet or my posture, but I’ve noticed that riding larger ultimate wheels feels similar to standing while pedaling, which places a lot of stress on the arches of my feet. However, with this 10-inch ultimate wheel, I feel like I can let it roll on its own, and my legs just keep up with it.

My feet tend to ache when riding ice or inline skates or freeline skates. Somehow they are clenching even though the shoe of a skate is large compared to a small pedal. I guess it becomes better with practice, because somehow I seem not to ride relaxed. I have no problem on an UW.

But isnt that also with inline skates that the skates vibrate more on the ground. There is no spring or soft tire that bounces.

The muscles in the feet cramp up. The shaking is another aspect.

My feet also ache when I ride a freeline skate. I indeed need to ride more relaxed. Perhaps it’s just a matter of skill level.

I just got 38mm and 45mm cranks. I will put them on a 12" and a 16" uni.

With my skill level, I don’t dare to try! I haven’t tried anything shorter than 127mm on my 36er yet since it doesn’t have a brake.

Do you even have a cottorless 36er? You dont need brakes. It will probably never get relevant unless you decide to start downhill.

36"/45mm was really interesteing to try. But it took me 200 tries to get started, and I only managed like 5 meters.

@SirCranky rode it on pretty much first try, though… :joy:

A cotterless 36er is my only 36er. I thought a brake would help since a brake worked when I tried a G29 for the first time especially for turning.

Whe’re do y’all get such short cranks from and what were they originally ment for?

Where did you get them? I NEED THEM! Might make my 16" worth having.

These tiny cranks are meant to be used on small electric scooter bikes, which require cranks by the law. Please note that the square holes are larger than regular cotterless cranks. Even the regular square taper axle may vary from one to another. So you may have to put several pieces of shims. The 38mm is rare. I only found one seller on the website Taobao.com. That site is not easy to use if you can’t read Mandarin, But you can find 45mm or 50mm cranks on Aliexpress by searching " niu cranks".

I find 38mm cranks feel weird, but he thinks they’re nice to ride. He can handle some uphills and downhills that I couldn’t.

Great skills!!

How is the quality? I found that the 45 mm “mototiger” aliexpress cranks would start deforming after only a handful of attempts at jump mounting (the only viable technique for fremounting 36"/45mm)
