I’m planning a road trip up to visit my grandparents in Caseville, (Huron Bay area) Michigan for a couple of weeks starting on or around July 12th. My mom and sister are leaving to go to Europe for two weeks, so I’m going on my own vacation.
I’m going to bring a friend along so we can split costs/driving time, and for all-around support. I’ve never done a drive this long (~22hrs) by myself before, so it ought to be quite an experience.
I’ll be visiting some aunts and uncles along the way in LaGrange, IN and Warren, MI. If anyone lives along my planned route, please let me know. I won’t be in any hurry and I’d love to ride with some people.
I’m planning on staying up there for between 3 weeks and a month, so I’ll have time to ride around and see things - make this a memorable experience, you know
Also, I know that there are a good number of riders in Canada. I might be able to get as far as Toronto or Ottowa, so if anyone lives around there and wants to ride some time, I could probably meet you somewhere. I’ve only been to Canada once so I’m not sure how driving up there will be.
Like I’ve said, this is all tentative, but I’d like to get an idea of who’d be interested in doing something, or if anyone has any kind of suggestions for anything.
I’m really looking forward to my first NAUCC, so I hope to see many of you there!
That sounds good. Sarnia is only 2ish hours from Caseville - totally doable.
I’ve only been planning this trip for about 4 hours, and already I’m running into slight difficulties…mainly with finding someone to accompany me on my expedition…
I’ve only asked 5 people (those who were online at the time), but, so far, none of them believe that they can come…
We’ll see. Things tend to work themselves out towards the end
I just checked gmaps again and saw that Ottawa is about 9.5hrs away from my grandparents’ place in Caseville. Maybe on my way from Warren to Caseville I could make the ~8hr trek out there, but I’m not sure. If I can get someone to come on this roadtrip with me it would be more likely… London or Toronto are pretty sure things though.
How is driving in this area of Canada? What are the average speed limits? Is there any particular route that may be quicker than google map’s selected route?
…so that’s ~60mph (~100kph). meh, we’ll see how it goes.
I now have 3 friends who are willing to come with me, split costs and driving time, and see some mountains. It’ll be us two guys and the two girls…this may be a longer drive than I anticipated .
That’s neat Blake. I’ve only ever met one other person who had ever even heard of Caseville! Their house is right on the lake. They built it some time in the 1960’s though.
Okay, so driving in Ontario-area will be a lot like driving on the interstate. That’s good to hear. I don’t think it would take me 8 hours to get from Detroit to Ottawa…would it?
(It was from a thread that was around a while ago about how americans don’t accept nudity the way people from other countries do)
But yeah, I’m up for riding with anyone along the way - even if it’s a bit out of the way. To give you an idea of what I consider “out of the way”, when you hold up your hand so that it looks like michigan’s ‘glove’, anything above your four knuckles is “out of the way”.
I’d like to make a trip to Hamtramck to get some real kizka and paczki. Mmmmm, I haven’t had kizka & eggs in years…
@det-riot
Pleasant Ridge is really close to Warren/Sterling Heights. I didn’t realize that. We’ll definately be able to ride as long as your summer plans allow it.
Anyone else? Depending on who decides to come with me (I’m assuming someone will have a change of plans/someone else will decide to come) I should have more or less time, and more or less money…hehe…
But Pleasant Ridge is close to other places that I’m 100% sure I’ll be visiting, so this part of the trip shouldn’t change.
The amount of time I spend in Canada is most likely to change, .
