Metrosexuals

I happened on an episode of South Park the other evening that deals with the burning issue of the metrosexual. It was hysterical, dealing with the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy thing, but I thought that they had made the word metrosexual up. Well, as was brought up in another thread, you just can’t be too cynical. Google news has quite a few hits on this trend. My wife knew the word; am I the only who didn’t?

Talk about people who shouldn’t be allowed to marry.

Re: Metrosexuals

Your going to have to explain that one a bit more I’m not sure who your talking about metrosexuals or yourself?

I perfer the Washington Post’s defenition.
" A straignt man who styles his hair using three different products (and actually calls them “products”), loves clothes and the very act of shopping for them, and describes himself as sensitive and romantic. In other words, he is a man who seems stereotypically gay except when it comes to sexual orientation. "
The Washington Post, Nov. 17 2003

I think the whole Metrosexual thing has been arround for quite a while people just finally have excepted a standard term for it.

So in other words, a metrosexual is a gay man that’s not gay?

Re: Re: Metrosexuals

That was tongue in cheek and referred to metrosexuals. I was, of course, alluding to the current debate/controvery over whether or not gay people should be allowed to marry. They should, of course.

By the way, way to go Hawaii where Dennis Kucinich came in second in your primary.

i heard it on the radio about a year ago, it was in the morning show and they were describing as it as a new term for fem guys.

exactly.

A girl I used to date is now dating one.

Re: Re: Metrosexuals

does my razor and shaving gel count for two?

I don’t like the word “metrosexual”. It mixes sexual behavior with social and personal behavior and confuses the entire issues. The fact that the word needs so much explanation is evidence that it has problems. Metrosexual just makes you think of someone who has a fetish for sex in the city.

Something like pretty boy yuppie would be a better than the word metrosexual.

and here’s me thinking that made me a sarahjessicaparkeraphilliac!

thanks for setting me ‘straight’ john

Re: Re: Re: Metrosexuals

Just out of curiousity, why do you think they should be allowed to?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Metrosexuals

Because I believe that the love and committment of gays and their legal rights are no different than those of straights and should be treated as such.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Metrosexuals

same curiosity, why do u think it’s an issue even worth having an opinion on?

people are people
people marry other people

where’s the complication?

(if i was the kind of person to swear on these forums, now would be the time when i’d say F&%$ really loudly while turning away in disgust)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Metrosexuals

the complication is that morons try to prevent people from being people. if you dont have an opinion the morons will win by default.

This has nothing to do with the subject of Metrosexuals, but it’s kind of in the same topic, but not. It’s about homosexuals in schools.

My school tries to tell people how to dress: what not to wear, gang stuff, spikes, jewelry, clothing size, etc… And when a guy and girl are hugging and kissing, they tell them to stop. Now, if you break the clothes rule, they send you to the office and make you change into like PE clothes or call home or something, as for the kissing and all that, they give like detention, iono. Well, what about homosexuals, are they more strict with them or what?

For a homosexual to be wearing (representing) that they are gay, showing off rainbows and other “gay” colors is like a gang member representing, it shouldn’t be allowed in school. It’s disrespectful to the school and the religious people at the school.
I think I’ll take this to the principal…

There should be a seperate school for them or something…

Well, feel free to argue back, I’m just stating what’s on my mind really, not really… iono… debating?

Anyway

I’m outty again.

When you force people, anyone, for any reason, into a separate place like this they are called a ghettos. Ghettos are ugly, isolated places that create strangers at best and enemies at worst; they do not foster friendships.

You have links to “black ghettos” when really, ghettos were started by the German’s in 1940, Poland. It was known as the Warsaw Ghetto. 400,000 Jews, blah blah blah… Anyway, I am slightly offended, but I know yo meant no harm, I’m just weird like that. And ghetto’s are bad places, very run down and well… ghetto.

Ghettos pre-date the Nazis. Read both links. Also try reading Reubeni: Prince of the Jews by Max Brod, a historical novel about life in a Jewish ghetto during the Renaissance.

You suggest that certain people should be sent off to separate facilities than those that you use and you’re offended???

If those certain people are breaking rules and being disrespectful, then yes, they should be sent away to different facilities. The bad kids go to Cache Creek High… terrible school for terrible kids… tsk tsk shakes head

I think we have digressed.

This last statement you made troubles me for a few reasons.

First you say that you feel gay pride symbols are like gang symbols at your school. Is there a reason for this? The last I checked these symbols are not ment to seperate others from associating with them or to start a turf war with them. Gangs are not peaceful orginizations and violence tends to be a re occuring thread in all gang activity. Compairing a peaceful symbol like that of the gay pride rainbow or triangle, which represent peaceful orginization is completly different. Unless of course at your school you concider the everyone who wears sports jerseys from the high school track to their favorite NBA hoodie to be in a gang. Or how about people that wear Unicycling stuff, do these people represent a gang that should be baned from your scool?

Second I ask how these symbols offend you or others (religious types) who see them and why it is you feel that they disrespect your school as a whole?

I’m kind of offended by the notion that religious people are neccessarily homophobic. I am both a religious person and an advocate of gay marriage. Perhaps “conservative evangelical Christian” would be a better term for your purposes.

Are you still in high school? I’ll admit that I had similar views (maybe not quite as extreme) when I was still under the direct influence of my parents, neighborhood and church. Wait til you leave the nest. You’ll have a whole new perspective and finally be able to form your own opinions on things. It’s refreshing.
