Men and unicycle seats. A practical solution!

Hi all

A guy I met at my local circus club ties a semi inflated inner tube around
his seat. This makes for a pretty effective air cushion and seems to work
really well. It is also cheap!

John_Childs had referred to this old thread describing the suspensory (see the initial post in this thread.) from another thread. They seem like a good idea.

I’d like to try a pair but the model ‘classic’ initially suggested does not seem to be available. Anyone out there have a model they would suggest?

I would narrow the current list down to the Champion, or Core. (These things are weird.) I’m leaning toward the ‘Core’ model since it has no straps going back and no a seam underneath.

And (assuming you’re wearing shorts) when the BBs do ride up, you can reach up into the legs of your shorts fairly discreetly, grab the hems of the BBs with two fingers, and pull them down again. I can do this while I’m riding. A great advantage over tighty-whities.

Re: Men and unicycle seats. A practical solution!

THis is a huge issue for me, even with bike shorts everything requires not so subtle adjustments. Which one is the “Classic” model? I don’t see that listed.

Will someone remind as to why it is inappropriate to move your testicles out of harm’s way?

I’d much rather offend someone by something that isn’t offensive at all, then to put my balls into a vice grip.

I like how my voice sounds, don’t you?

It’s ok to adjust youself, but what if yourself adjust between bumps, and you have no chance to correct the situation.

The InternationalJock site customer service recommends (based on my muni riding description) the core or champion. Oh, and if your wondering about the size, they say,

I ordered the champion.

Re: Re: Men and unicycle seats. A practical solution!

I kind of gave up on the “subtlety” element, and just adjust when and as needed. I figure there’s nothing else subtle about a unicycle…

I don’t really like the classic super-tight bike shorts, but I’ve been quite happy with the lined baggy shorts such as the Canari “Response” shorts sold by UDC. I really wish for a pair of those bulletproof lined Roach shorts, but they seem to be off the market.

I haven’t tried tighty-whiteys, but I have tried boxer-briefs. I switched back to boxers. I get more pain it seems riding with BBs then straight boxers… And I’ve gotten decent at “adjusting myself” by standing on the pedals and lowering myself on to the seat properly. Sometimes hoewever, the hand is needed… but that’s ok, everyone thinks I’m grabbing my crotch when I use my seat handle anyways

I agree with the Edwards…

I have been riding since I was 9 … blah blah blah…

even took it to college with me …

Everyone looks at the ‘package’.
Doesn’t matter if it’s male or female.

I’ll be riding along, and 50% of people I pass look at my package pushed up due to the seat.

I can’t remember if it ever bothered me.
I do remember some embarrasement as a kid.

So, ‘comfort adjustments’ dont linger in my head.
It’s just something you gotta do.

I wish I had a dollar for everytime I see the some of the younger black kids in our area that walk…
… while grabing thier nuts like thier M Jackson in Thriller.

Even older black men are grabing thier nuts in public… and they ride no unicycles.

Now hair is a different story… I think if I learned to Uni at an older age hair growth may be an issue. But, I think that due to me Uniing since I was a kid, The hair that would have grown in this area would have been more prevailing. (inside thighs)

Learning a proper mouting techinique helps alot.

I’ve found that mounting without proper placement of materials will lead to more adjustments or pinching.

Re: Men and unicycle seats. A practical solution!

I doubt there are many 9 year olds riding unicycles who realize what a
mixed blessing puberty is going to be. Between the pain and the package
problem, it can make you want to quit. I found the best solution to
both problems is baggy shorts rather than bicycle shorts (for the
package problem) and a lightweight jogging supporter (for the pain
problem).

Hate to burst everyones bubble, but us ballet dancers have been wearing something similar for hundreds of years, called a dance belt. I personnaly never wear one when riding, but I have, and while it does keep the boys up and out of the way, I ride on my butt, with the saddle tilted as far back as possible, and I rarely get nutbusters. But when I do… my god.

I’ve been riding with the ‘Champion Suspensory’. I usually wear the b*ke shorts with it, but can now ride the uni with any pants or shorts because of it. Allows me to ride without worries.

Are you talking about your children, or your “boys”?

(I think unicycling would be a fun family activity, although I may deem it “uncool” and stop if my dad started to ride with me
