Mass produced air seats?

How many more people are going to have to mention that they have “customized”
their seat to an “air seat” (and love it) to get the attention of Viscount or
some other Manufacturer? There has to be a market for a professionally done
version… Am I wrong?

>either. I’d like to know some more about this air seat concept.

Here’s what I did…

I took my seat cover off by prying back the little clips that held it on. Then I
removed the pad that was there. I punched a hole with a nail through my seat,
then Reamed it out with a screwdriver until the hole was big enough for the stem
to go through (I also filed the rough edges around the punched hole). Then I
placed the tube on the seat (not inflated) with the stem though the hole, and
folded strategically. I then placed the cover back on and halfway squeezed the
clamps back down, so I could inflate it a little to see how it looked.

After I felt good about the positioning of the tube, I clamped the cover all the
way on, and finished putting the seat back together.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like a great little set of instructions. Now what kind of seat did you
say that was?

John Foss (just bought a heavy gel seat insert, and now wondering why I did)

It is the Stock seat that came on my No-Name Tiawanese Uni. Sorry I forgot to
mention that…

I saw an ad in the Newspaper the other day for something that looks similar to
what I’ve heard described. I haven’t actually tried it, but I’m thinking about
trying it soon. It’s called the “Hawiian Toosh Coosh.” Here’s the Contact info:

Toosh Coosh 1-800-644-4479 $14.95 www.tooshcoosh.com

I’m seriously thinking of ordering one, but just haven’t gotten around
to it yet.

The problem with bicycle seats seems to have been a recurrent problem for
years. I have had many problems with bike seats, numbness, etc. I recently
purchased a "Men's Liberator" and that didn't help either. I'd like to know
some more about this air seat concept. Also, back in the seventies
Bicycling magazine featured a seat design called "the bummer" which was a
sling-like affair a guy made out of an old set of handlebars. Supposedly
they were eventually mass produced. Anybody know anything about those?

I believe this has been mentioned to SemCycle and they said they would
consider it.

I suspect the problem will be trying to make it durable - if we modify our
seats, we can’t go complaining if we get a puncture (besides, innertubes are
easy to repair and cheap to replace). On that subject, has anyone managed to
puncture their air seat? Do you keep a bit of padding in the seat for
emergencies? Do you carry a spare innertube? I’ve never punctured mine although
I did manage to tear the valve off one. Ooops.

Regards, Mark.
