My wife threw her back out and it looks like I’m taking Emma to see Maroon 5 tomorrow night.
What am I in for?

A poppy indie band… just be glad its not Britney Spears. I would’nt worry at all about the show, there will prolly be a real diveverse crowd, and its pretty slow/laid back kinda mus-ack.
The head dude in Maroon 5 is the son of a good friend and longtime rockclimbing partner of mine, Bob Carmichael. Jess, the son, grew up on Pat Metheny and other jass guitar players so at least the guys in Maroon 5 can play. They’re all jazz nuts playing indi pop.

Well, my wife’s back being in pain notwithstanding she did manage to attend this concert with Emma. I did end up in the roll of chaffeur, though, and so saw the concert from the back of the arena. It was nice. The band is pretty good and the crowd was cool: kids, teens, grownups all enjoying a fine summer evening in the open air.
Emma apparently had a great time, dancing, singing along, and whooping with the crowd. It was her first concert and I’m glad she enjoyed it.
I even bought Bics for the two of them, but my wife says nobody does that anymore.
On a side note, the concert was held on the ground’s of the Tom’s River High School North. Some may recall that Tom’s River won a couple of Little League World Championships a few years ago. I now know why.
This district has cash to burn. Poland Spring is a sponsor of their athletic program and there is an entire indoor arena called, yes, The Poland Spring Center. On a freakin’ high school campus. And the halls are littered with advertisements for food and financial services companies. I was stunned.
Oh, and the concert was held in the Pine Belt Arena, the schools’ football stadium, named for a local chain of car dealerships.
This is helpful information. My son is approaching concert age, and knowing this will save me the 99 cents I woud spend to buy him a Bic lighter.
It seems that once again, I owe you.
Put it towards college. Or bail. Whichever is more likely.
