Manchester to Blackpool Charity Ride

Hi , I am not a unicyclist myself but I took some photos of uicyclists taking part in the Manchester to Blackpool Charity Ride today. Does anyone know them and how far did they get ?

Thanks alot Galatas! Its great that you took the time to go to the effort to put these photo’s up.

Looks like everyone had a good time, what is Roger doing on the2nd Picture? Looks like Rich shot off!

Mike

P.S can someone move this to RSU?

Great fotos. Makes you proud to be a cokeur. Thanx for that.

Cathy

That’s me on the right of the last photo…

Twelve unicyclists in total started from Manchester; ten of us rode the entire distance and the other two did 40 of the 60 miles. According to the GPS I spent 5 1/2 hours riding.

It was a great ride; it’s a blummin’ long way (by my standards, anyway!) but the constant stream of cyclists all the way along the 60 mile route really is something to see.

Thanks for posting them!

Phil

Thanks for posting Galatas, this is great, really appreciated.

I was getting bored waiting for the others mounting in that second photo.

:-S

I am just idling using my foot on the tyre.

Roger

Once again, so close to getting everyone on a unicycle, on the line, at once for a photo.

Slightly relieved to have missed it after reading the other thread. I’d decided that if I did it, then having finished 5 minutes behind roger last year I’d try to keep up this year. I can’t ride at 20mph.

I tried keeping up with Sam when he had a sudden urge to zoom off in front; I think I managed it for about a minute before beginning to feel rather unstable; much longer and I’d end up in a pile on the road. The GPS said 19.8mph.

The man’s mad, I tells you…

Phil

I did the same with Roger and Sam after their beer stop. I kept up with them for a couple of miles though. It was either slow down and go at my own pace, or throw up as I couldn’t keep going that fast on the 125 cranks for ever. I opted to slow down! My claim to fame was overtaking them both on one of the hills though. I think it was just after that that they both left me.:o

In my case I’m continually training for one thing or another. I do ‘up’ my training for specific events though. I seem to spend a lot of the year getting ready for SSMM and the Blackpool Run follows several weeks later, so my fitness is already up there.

As with all things, start off gradually and build up the distance. You should really be out at least twice a week - 3 if possible. We had 2 riders that have never ridden further than 20 miles and they struggled doing the 60 miles on Sunday. They ended up doing just the 40 in the end. As well as building up your distance you need to look at improving your average speed - I suppose this comes with getting fitter anyway. Unless you want to take all day on these distance rides, then you want to be looking at getting your average speed to at least 11 mph over several hours.

Hope that helps.

Wow… to be a part of a ride like that!!!

I wish this thread could be moved to RSU.

There is a thread about this year’s manchester to blackpool floating around in RSU.
