Today’s upd on the Nimbus was different. My hand caught on to the cable of my Magura HS 22 and Splash! the oil started to leak out. The brakes are old and not very good (even before there were emptied of brake fluid). So now I want a new pair of HS 33 but some things about them are not clear to me. Could someone help?
a. The HS 33 on Unicycle.com does not seem to have its hose covered by braided steel. I think I would prefer that after today’s incident. I am sure I have seen that model somewhere.
b. Has the HS 33 got a screw so I can use it as a drag brake?
c. Is the crossing hose long enough to stay clear from my Coker tyre (on a Nimbus 36 frame)?
d. Is the main hose short enough to be wound around the T7 so I won’t have to cut it?
e. How can I prevent something similar from happening with the new brakes?
b. Has the HS 33 got a screw so I can use it as a drag brake?
it has a red knob that can be adjusted to give constant drag
c. Is the crossing hose long enough to stay clear from my Coker tyre (on a Nimbus 36 frame)?
mine touches the underside of my N36 frame, so is well clear of the tyre
d. Is the main hose short enough to be wound around the T7 so I won’t have to cut it?
i ended up extending my hose because a standard front brake was not long enough to reach the T7, i would imagine it would be easy to lose the extra length of a rear brake hose, but i have not personally done it

route you hoses very carefully so that they are not vulnerbale to flailing hands or being dropped on the ground. Or get a braided hose set and fot these instead, you will need a bleeding kit for this though.
You’d need to get a set of adaptors to convert the 4 bolt magura mount to V brake posts. Not sure where you’d get them from in the US although i’m sure someone on here does.
A. Thats up to you, the link has been posted.
B. Ive had trouble with the little plastic adjuster. I suppose you can set it up how you like but I was told that its more of a feel for your hand(how hard you have to squeeze). I thik alot of the adjustments are more on the brakes. I am not an expert tho. But yes you can set it up for drag.
C. I have a 29er…¿
D. UDC has size options. The brake sizes they sell were designed for unis. They will help you pick the one you need.
E. ZIP TIES. good stuff.
F. Your welcome.
You may already know this, but:
If you get a (rear) Magura brake with a long hose it’s easy to shorten the hose without having to bleed the brake. If you make a clean cut with a sharp knife the fluid doesn’t just run out - if you’re careful you can just refit the end and all will be well. You’ll need a new olive for the joint though.
I’ve only ever done it with an HS66 brake (drop bar levers, otherwise same as HS33) a few years ago, but I would imagine Magura fluid is still the same (quite thick compared with normal DOT brake fluid) and the same trick should still work.
