I think maybe because you don’t want people knowing you can do the trick and your mind feels at ease or something. 
Good - Riding along the beachside pavements
Bad - Being chased by dogs along the beachside pavements.
Love the ability to crank up hills on my Coker.
Hate the inability to crank down hills on my Coker. 
The cranking up outweighs the cranking down!
