looking to learn in Portland Oregon

I’ve been trying with limited success to learn to ride a unicycle this summer as I travelled around the West. Now that I am back home in Portland, I would like to find some others to learn from or practice with.

Any leads would be greatly appreciatted.

Thank You,
Mark Lawton

I knoe Ducttape is there pm him maybe.

There is a group in Portland called Unicycle Bastards. Contact them. You’ll have fun. They play unicycle polo and plan festivities for themselves. I’m sure they’d be able to help you with learning.

Course there is also Ducttape who is in Portland. Would do him well to break away from the forums and teach some unicycling.

I was just in Portland not too long ago! Tons of great stuff there to ride on.

Ducttape (Madison) finished his summer job a few weeks ago, so he is pretty freeed up, and I know he is looking for more guys to ride with. He is nice, rides a Torker DX or his Nimbus 36". Youll like him, and he knows some good spots to ride aorund, and meetings to go to.

I agree with Jerrick on this one. Trust me when i say Madison is a good/friendly/helpful person and will help you with unicycling if need be.

Hello,

I will be in Portland starting early September, and will definitely be up for some rides. I have had my uni for a couple of months now so I know a few tricks. I live in Washington, DC but go to Lewis & Clark College so I’m up for unicycling in either place. I have a KH 24 what about you?

Portland is a fun city (especially if you like beer and coffee). I just wish there was more muni around the area. The Seattle area has a better availability of muni trails near the city.

From your avatar it looks like you’re into the juggling stuff. Be sure to check out the Portland Juggling Festival and Vaudeville Extravaganza that is happening September 28-30. It’s a great juggling festival. I may go down to Portland for it this year. I’m not much of a juggler, but the festival is still lots of fun and unicycles are invited too.

I’d love to ride, the unicycle bastards are a fun group but WAY older than me and they mostly do MUni and they usually do it late at night although they have recently been into the unicycle polo scene. I mainly ride trials and do a little bit of freestyle, Recently though I’ve been doing mostly distance on my Nimbus 36’er. PM me if you would like to get in contact and I can give you my cell number.

Well, I don’t have a 24" and my ability to go places is currently limited by where my parents can get me to, I don’t do much MUni, I do know of some good MUni spots though, and am up for rides anytime (until the school year starts then my schedule gets tight) PM me if you want to get in contact with me, also every Wednesday night over at Reed college from 7pm till whenever if gets dark, is Reed College Juggling night if you are into Juggling I know a lot of people over there but I don’t attend it much.

John_Childs: I agree Portland is an awesome city. I am about to start my second year there, so I know a bit about it–still lots to explore though. As for my avatar, that’s me spinning fire-knife it’s kind of like fire-staff except with a hooked blade on one end  I don’t juggle but would love to learn it’s on my list of hobbies to hone along with slacklining and poi. I’ll try to learn juggling by the time the festival starts, it sounds pretty cool.

Ducttape: We should definitely meet up, I’ll be busy between classes at LC and work at REI but I should have some time to ride. I’ll PM you my contact info later today. Sounds fun.

The Portland Juggling Festival will likely have a workshop or two on spinning staffs and canes and similar objects. There will also be some unicycling workshops and a muni ride workshop. Plus the public show they have at Benson High School is a great show.

there is a Bouldering Gym I know of that has a slackline, they are cheap and the walls are nice, and they even have a live DJ I don’t know if you’ve heard of it they are The Circuit… it’s an awesome place and there are always lots of cool people there to help you learn to slackline and stuff.
