Looking for unicyclists in North Bay, ON

I am Tim, and I am new in the sport. I’ve been riding for under two weeks, but I can ride (although not too well). I am looking for other riders in North Bay. If there are any riders here, and you’d like to have someone to ride with, contact me at rowantreefamily@hotmail.com. Thanks. Tim.

Although he now lives in London, Brian MacKenzie often goes home to North Bay to ride and film.

Is there anybody out there?

Again I ask, are there any people in Nort Bay riding unicycyles? I feel so alone.

I’ve heard there is a trials unicyclist attending Canadore college in North bay. He’s in his first year.

hey Tim,

I dont know if you remember me, but i was there when Brian come to film with Owen ( I had the blue unicycle ). Im happy to hear that you start unicycling and I hope you will find a unibuddy.

sorry, this wasnt an helpful post

I hate to say it, but in most places on the globe, you may have to just get used to riding solo!

This forum helps me feel a great deal of connectivity with the unicycling community, if you post about your progress and experiences, I think you’ll find most everyone here very friendly, funny, and encouraging. It definitely helps inspire me to keep riding and challenging myself.

There’s another fellow who just got his uni and is learning, check out the posts by DUDEWITHASOCK . He’s starting a riding journal thread.

Good luck and keep riding!

Hey man.

I remember.I’m really happy that I am unicycling now. The next time we meet, I’ll be having as much fun as you. I just got a new Muni, and I’m having a blast. See Ya.

ride into cheap-skates (and I thought I heard there was a new bike store there?) with your MUni after you ride it for a while for them to retention it after a break-in time.

it’ll give you a chance to talk to them as an ex-MTB’r, and some of those guys were at last year’s 24hr race, I was talking to them. See if they sell uni’s, or at least know of someone who rides or wants to learn.

If there are no riders in your town, make some

i am like podzol, sorry i cant help but this forum makes me feel like there are more people in my hometown that can unicycle, welcome to the forums, your sorta new, at least you said you were, but you have 64 posts.
congo-rats on jumping on this bandwagon, all though it is very small of a bandwagon it is still a great one to jump on.

I will get some people riding in this town. I’d like to get a uni like the one you lent me Brian. That would be perfect to let people try it out before they commit to buying one.

yeah, you get those on the cheap spare unicycles are great to have.

although…

here it is…

you may as well have a spare unicycle that’s really good, then you have two, (because the rides are completely different, like a 29" for cruising around town at some speed…they aren’t Cokers, but they are quite enjoyable and quick) and a spare if anyone needs one

and because you wouldn’t want to do anything rough on them, you can get a fairly cheap one and it still be fully capable (like you wouldn’t worry about needing slplined cranks on them)

the one i lent you was $225, a 29" one is $295.

that’s what i would do if i were you (you don’t seem like the trials kinda guy, and we could get some great speed going on those pipeline trails!!)

I suppose I could get a 29x3 tire. Could I? I’d like for it to be suitable for trails. Or does a 2 inch do the trick?

they don’t make 29rs that wide, i think it’s like 2.25 or something.

you muni is already suitable for trials, neither a trials or a muni is suited for very high speed. (especially the speed you could get on North Bay trails) it takes you quite a long time to ‘outgrow’ the speed from a muni though…

sooo…you thought you only needed ONE more unicycle?

hahahahahhahahah

I can see that my addiction will soon overwhelm my entire life. Tam is still pissed that I spent money on the muni…so I’ll probably wait a while til I buy another. I’m trying to get her interested in unicycling, but she is not biting at it.

I’m thinking that I might like a coker in the future. I think it’d be a lot more fun when pedalling around the streets. Do you think it’d be well suited for the trails here?

well, if you can trick her into it, a trials would be a great option. perfect size for her to learn on, and there are a lot of fun places to play with it in North Bay when she’s not using it

Love the pic Brian…that’s the best photo I’ve ever seen of you.

yes, I’m like a half man, half monkey.

I guess that makes this a pic of a mankey?

PS…You will get to try out a Coker when I come up next weekend

Sounds gooood Mankey. When is your arrival date?
