Looking for a little bit of help with practicing.

Hello, I’m looking for people close to Portland and Vancouver.
Portland, Or and Vancouver, Washington. I’m still holding a fence but close to not. I’ve kinda hit a dead end.

Get away from the fence and ride into the open. It is the fence that is stopping you progressing.

^^^ You will get no better and no more accurate advice than this. Get out there and start falling off. It’s the only way to learn how to correct yourself when you do fall.

Thank you and I will.

Practice along a wall or fence if you want to. Work on start and stopping, speeding up and slowing down, and making planned, safe, controlled dismounts. These are important skills that will serve you well. Start venturing out into open space when you’re ready. Go back to the fence when/if you get frustrated and feel like you’re progressing backwards.

My 2 cents…

Thanks

FastEddie, I did just that. Went off the back of my truck in the street two practices. Next I’ll go back to the fence because I did feel frustrated.

Thank you all.

My eureka moment was when I stopped trying to stay on top of the unicycle, and rather tried to keep the unicycle under me. Go which ever direction you are falling, get the unicycle under you so you to catch the fall, and repeat. A unicyclist’s center of gravity is rarely directly above the wheel, we are almost always just about falling, and it’s something that takes some getting used to.

Be like Buzz Lightyear, learn to fall with style

I tell my learners to “put the wheel where you would step if you were walking”. It seems a simple and effective notion to focus on.

Oops, sorry about the typo LargeEddie.
