Let's MUni London !

This is directed towards All MUni/Uni-cyclists in the UK.

I have a plan:

It goes like this: Let’s get a big group of unicyclists and cycle around London
for a day.

Why: why not ? Just for fun, an opportunity for unicyclists to meet each other.
Conventions and festivals are normally run over several days and sometimes it
hard for individuals to devote holidays to such events. This would be a one day
thing. Most probably a saturday. Why london ? Its far away for some of you, but
the connections to get there aren’t too bad.

What would we do ? Visit famous spots, play a few games, I plan to have a rough
outline the day but nothing in particular. Photos would be taken and a website
for the event produced (probably by myself)

Who is it for ? Anyone ! Kids and adults alike whatever your Uni level. This
will not be an endurance or distance event, we will take it easy, go places by
tube (underground, subway) and cycle around for a bit then go somewhere else.

It would be all about having fun and getting Unicyclists out and about.

Interested ? At the moment I am trying to get a feel for the idea - mail me
personallly and I will set up a small mailing list of interested parties, if
there are enough of you up for it, a date will be chosen, hopefully sometime
before christmas.

Hey and if it all falls through, maybe this idea can be taken by other countries
and their unicyclists to do something similar.

Remember, this would be just for fun, its not afiliated to any existing group,
its not supposed to be, its not supposed to compete with any existing event, it
would be free, no money would be made from
it.

Sounds like an excellent idea, one that should be tried everywhere. What
better way for the unicyclists of a geographic area to get together and meet
each other?

Dear SDG:

What a great idea!

This is what we do in Hong Kong whenever there are enough interested unicyclists
to take part! I’m sure that in London, you can do the same as we do here which
is to find a succession of cool places to ride which satisfy both the tourist
AND the Banzai rider.

One favorite ride here is from Hong Kong’s Victoria Peak, which offers splendid
panoramic views of the glittering city, all the way down to the “Star Ferry”
which is Harbour side. The average riders just ride it and enjoy the scenery,
while the Advanced guys “Glide” or find off-trail pieces for M-uni-style fun! In
short, every participant is satisfied.

You could break up the event midway with a stop at a famous pub or “chippie,”
which ensures double satisfaction. The only competition which takes place is for
a seat in the pub, or on the sidewalk in front of the Chippie!!! (Eh, Roger?)

On the way back from BUC-5, my HK Team stopped for a day (overnight) in London
for a ride / rides along the Thames, and a half-day in Koln / Cologne to ride /
sightsee the the Rhine!! What a blast both times!!! The combination of great
tourist scenery, some fun, unexpected places to ride (like around and in various
city fountains), and the relaxed nature of it all meant another kind of great
memory for my team.

And the “Real Tourists” (The ones walking) gave us a months worth of “Things
people shout!”

Go for it, Go for it, and Welcome to bring your gang next time to Hong Kong
where we can do the same thing. IE: Britain does Hong Kong AGAIN!!!

P.S. The best time to stop in HK for such an event would be just before or after
UNICON X in the year 2000. But you’re all welcome anytime!

This is a great idea. When I lived in Tokyo, we used to meet on Sunday mornings
at my house at 3:45 or 4am, and then do a mountain bike ride through famous
places downtown, ending at the big fish market. I still have video footage from
one of those rides. LOADs of fun, followed by a huge breakfast. Unicycles sounds
even better!
