Lendingtree.com - not (really) spam

I am not particularly interested in Lendingtree.com, but the fact that an ad for a particular silent film star’s movies started appearing at the top of this forum when I viewed a thread about him made me wonder what’s going on here.

So, I’m starting this thread specifically mentioning Lendingtree.com, the company that says “When banks compete, you win!” to see if something similar happens.

I know that by doing this I’ll probably start a rash of similar threads, but so be it. This is science, dammit!

What is Lendingtree. com? (Have I missed out on something?)

Lendingtree.com is a company that gives money away to Scandinavians. Send me $100 USD and I’ll arrange it all for you.

I’m really sorry but I’m short of money right now and can’t send you any.

Send me $50 and I’ll tell you what http://lendingtree.com/stm/default.asp is.

Maybe if you mention refinancing and home loans you’ll trigger a Google ad for Lendingtree or some other money loaning institution.

Google’s adsense, which is what’s used for the ads, crawls the page and tries to determine the subject of the page and then shows ads relevant to that.

i’m guessing that Most Replies gave it a headache?
