Hello Since I probably can’t avoid going wild on my new muni when it’s
finished, I should buy proper protection gear before that. I aimed at
Roach, but they are out of stock at Unicycle.com, and probably will be for
quite a while. Buying from another onlineshop is not an option
For the moment the competition is between the 661 and the “Kona Launch
Pad” Has anyone got any thoughts on the Kona leg armour?
A good thing is the plastic strips on the outside, sliding on the ground
instead of sticking on to it like the roach and 661. I have only tried the
Kona armpads, wich seem OK except I didn’t expect them to stay in place.
When im doing trials, bike and uni, i use lizard skin shin pads. CTR (crash test research) also does some similar ones. Theyre neoprene, wrap around your whole leg and have plastic inserts in them. You can also get ones which extend to your knees. there a bit hot, but you get used to it, and on the uni, you need a pad which wraps around to stop your shins and calves getting ripped up!
those konas look fine, they may give you more knee protection then the 661s, but i have 661s and they are great. you may be able to get konas in differnt colors but they are still not as stylish as the 661s. no…i am rong…661s have SIXSIXONE in huge letters down the sides. the konas are more stylish. but six six ones are less expensive and do the job very well. plus you get to deal with unicycle.com instead of… kona land…
go to http://www.danscomp.com/ and click “safty gear”, and then “shin gaurds”, there are a bunch of new options that i have never heard of. the lizard ones dont look like they protect knees as well as they should. but i have not really seen a good photo of them.
I have the SixSixOne leg armor and I found that the stitching on the
inside corner rubbed the skin off my leg and caused a scab. I still use
it, however I don’t fasten the upper velcro strap to keep the armor loose
and prevent it from rubbing. I’ve fallen once on my knees and the armor
stayed in place despite the unfastened strap.

Try some light weight spandex style bicycle knee warmers. The knee warmers
will keep the leg armor from chafing your knee. I wear knee warmers under
my Roach pads to prevent chafing. Works well.
