On the way to the pub last night it was mentioned my friend thought that left
handed because I rode a unicycle??? Well as it happens I am not left handed
but… What do you think? how about a quick survey to find out if she was
right? Can you mail me to say whether you are:
Left handed Right handed or ambedextrious
I will complile a summary and post it to the news group in a few weeks time.
Cheers
Roger

I’m ambidextrous. Left hand: write, eat, throw frisbee Right hand: golf, throw
baseball, bat, tennis, bowl
Left foot: unicycle, waterski, snowboard Right foot: kick
I’ve always heard that you can determine your dominant foot by standing with
your feet together and eyes closed, and having someone give you a shove forward.
Whichever foot you put forward first to keep you from falling is dominant (left
foot, in my case).

I’m right handed and “left footed”.
To me the left foot just carries weight. The tricky part of mounting and
rocking, controlling the movement back and forth of the top pedal, is done by
the right foot.
But suppose I were doing the other style of mounting, where you leave the pedals
nearly horizontal, and just hop on and go, then I think the first foot would be
the hard foot. (I can’t mount like that, but I’ve always tried it starting with
the wrong foot!)
I think I’ve noticed a higher percentage of left handed or ambidextrous people
among computer people, jugglers and musicians. So here we are, a bunch of
unicyclists and jugglers using a computer mailing list. (Maybe I should sing
that!) So I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bunch of lefties on this list.

As long as we’re doing a “scientific survey”, maybe Roger can add one other
datum: Which is your dominant foot?
I’m curious to know if most people are dominant on the same side as their
dominant hand, or opposite. Your dominant foot is the one you mount with, goin
on the pedal first.

Not for everyone. I always put my non-dominant (submissive?) foot on the pedal
so that my dominant foot lands on the forward pedal and I’m ready to go. The
wheel (and pedals) don’t move - none of this “move the wheel backwards to bring
the pedal up” malarky.

I guess that makes me right handed, right footed and weird.
