Left crank shaving frame! (Ideas and advices are needed).

Good day!

I installed new wheel on my QuAx frame and everything was just fine.
But the day before yesterday left crank started shaving frame near the bearing cup. This situation shows up not all the time but when I pushing on the right pedal from horizontal position (right pedal front) with almost no power on left pedal. It’s creaking like insane. During normal ride with no excess load on right pedal nothing happening.

Could it be hub damage? Left side of the ISIS part are closer to the bearing then right one as a result left pedal is closer as well. But it was not grinding frame before.
May it be frame bent?
Or it just cause of not tighten enough bearing cups?

It seems like you have encountered the same issue as me.

To make a long story short, if your case is the same as mine (which happened on my QX 36) then the bearing had moved towards the crank and actually shifted with it the frame towards the crank.
Check if you have a spacer between the bearing and the crank - if not then this would be needed to solve this issue.
If that is the case then you should contact QU-AX. They sent me spacers to fix my problem.

However, if this wheel and HUB are not QU-AX’s hardware then it may be a different story - maybe compatibility issue between QU-AX and 3rd party HUB and axis.

No, here is no any spacers installed. I thought about spacers but was not sure beacuse I have 4 QuAx unicycles and none of them have any crank-to-bearing spacers…
What material it made of?

If I’m not mistaken, it’s aluminium.
The thing is that there are 3 sizes or so of the bearings and you need to have the exact size or else the pressure on the bearing would make it go wrong.
I suggest that you contact QU-AX for details.

I also own 4 QU-AX unicycles (16", 20", 26", 36").
This malfunction is probably very rare. I had it only on my 36er and after ~1000 Km rides.

Here we can see that LS bearing closer to the edge of ISIS spindel:

Alright… My situation getting kinda uncomfy.

In short, if your wife presenting you some spare parts, you better ask her if there some MORE stuff…
In my case it was small zip bag with crank bolts and… SPACERS. Yes. Problem looks like solved for the moment. But one more concern left: hub axle have different size coming from each side. There is more on the right. Will see if this difference kills ISIS or not.

Sorry for bothering. But it is one more way to solve problem…

Do not lose your spares

Sergey

Good luck!

That was resolved fast…

The axle doesn’t looks very wide. On my Mad4One hub, I had about 4-5mm between the bearing and the “ISIS” part on the axle. Same on another spare ISIS hub I have!

Are you sure you have 100mm spacing between each bearing? (center to center)

Edit: I just noticed that the hub is white… What kind of hub is this?

This is Impact-Unicycles hub and wheel. Frame installed without any problems so I did not think there is difference from 100mm…
