Learning to ride a Uni-Continued.

Yes! I’ve got front to back balancing down pretty well. Now can someone give me
some tips on riding in a straight line?

You see i have no problem staying upright now, but I seem to not be able to ride
straight…is there a special technique to pedaling in order to ride straight?

This may sound kind of obvious, but once you start riding the improvement and
gratification come much faster. Best results are acheived by staying on the
unicycle and away from the computer.

For good training advice, explain the nature of the problem. If you’re always
turning to the left for instance, try to force it to go to the right. The
necessary “stuff” to go straight is somewhere in between.

If you are riding in a wavy pattern, put down the bottle and try again later!

Here’s what worked for me:

  1. Look dead ahead. Pick an object as far in front of you as possible and “lock
    on” to it.
  2. Pedal towards your target (like a crazed banshee if you wish).
  3. If the uni wants to go somewhere else, get annoyed by all means, but keep
your eyes on your target for as long as possible, because that’s where you
really want to go. Try to keep looking at your target even if you fall off
:). If your concentration slips from your target, dismount and start again.
  4. Keep going until your tyre bumps into the target (e.g. a tree 3 miles away).
  5. Congratulate self warmly and select favourite beverage.

Part 4 may take weeks, but it will happen. And when it does, you’re definitely
riding straight. The tip is, make the uni follow your line of sight and you’re
winning. If the uni falls away, that’s its problem. It has to learn.

But after step 5, you may find the straightness rather harder to achieve
