late raffle prize

Check this out -
One of my classmates spotted me riding around and gave me a free unicycle today. It’s a Torker CX 20 - and it’s perfect for all my siblings to learn on. (I’m the eldest of 5. My siblings have taken interest in the unicycle since I learned to ride, but are too small for my uni)

There is more to the story though - this is the uni that made me want to unicycle! :astonished: Flash-back about 4-1/2 years ago: my school had a ‘reading points’ raffle and was giving a bike and a unicycle to two lucky winners (you could opt to take a cash prize instead). I had never really thought of unicycles before but I became really excited about the idea of becoming a unicyclist upon seeing this machine. Of course, I set my hopes too high and was disappointed when I didn’t win:(. Getting a unicycle on my own seemed out of the question (you can’t buy a unicycle around here, it has to be done online).

No one wanted the prize unicycle (there were more than 2 prizes given away - none of the runners-up wanted it), so the principal gave the unicycle away to his neighbor - the same neighbor that left it rusting in his garage for four years. I still want to learn the unicycle eventually, but I just tell myself I’ll do it ‘when I get the chance.’

Fast-forward four years later: I’m now in high school but the idea of a being a unicyclist still interests me. I’ve started taking initiatives though and pursuing my interests - I’ve become a speedcuber and a juggler, and the unicycle comes back to the top of my goals list. With money from my job, I buy myself a unicycle online and start riding around town - to be spotted by the kid with the prize unicycle, who then gives it to me for free!

On another note, since I’m now going to be in a family of unicyclists now: My cousin came over during memorial day weekend and tried out my uni. After only two hours, he was able to ride over 50m - he’s now going to buy a 20 inch Torker LX:).

I think that’s good enough to say “That’s a few more of us and a few less of them!”

Great story. I wish someone would give me a uni…
