Laser Mouse Help!

So I recently got a laser mouse (Targus) for my laptop, its a nice lil bluetooth guy that I bought for playin some counter-strike. Only problem is that when I lift to relocate my mouse it is still detecting the pad and moving. I was wondering if anyone knew how to adjust this so that I could turn down the sensitivity so I can lift without it reading. I have used other laser and optic mouses that were not this bad. Im talkin a good .5in off the pad its still reading. Any help?

Why do you need to lift it off?

When your playin an FPS you are constantly lifting your mouse to relocate so that you are not running out of mouse pad. If you make more than 2-3 90 degree turns you are completely out of room. Its ok to tolerate once in a while but in a fast paces game it is very difficult.

Either try using a different pad, or increase the sensitivity of the mouse… such that you can turn a full 360 before running off the end of your pad. It’ll be harder to aim, but you’ll move much faster.

that is what my advice was going to be.

Yeah…But im a sniper…

once you get used to having a higher cursor speed you can’t even tell. i have mine pretty high and i pop a ton of heads.

I can adjust my playing antics, but does anyone know how to adjust the mouse?

Should be accessible in two locations: your game and your OS.

Dunno about your game. Try the Options menu and look for Input Device or Mouse or whatever, there should be a “sensitivity” slider.

What OS you using?

Most Windoze variants have a dialog at Start > Settings > Control Panel > Mouse. Go to “pointer options” and play with “pointer speed”.

In the control setting you have some mouse options. If you mouse came with any software, you may want to try that.

Ive never had that problem though. The only problem I had with a laser mouse is with my sisters mac. Her mouse only works on a white surface. If its on something black it twitches or just doesnt respond.

A google search may be better than here for this one. Unless JC knows something about laser intensity.

Its not the sensitivity from left to right, but when I lift the mouse it still detects left to right movement. I just thought I could ask around in the forums to spend more time here lol. I gues I can google this mess  Thanks guys!

What color is your mousepad?

Black, and I also used one that was green and black.

Hmm, ok. Just wondering. I know mouses with a laser use a red led light, and a camera taking thousands of pictures. The light reflects off the surface and is captured by the camera, and that determines the differences which way the mouse is moving and blah blah. A very reflective pad may be causing the light to be detected by the camera even when further away from the pad.

Thats the only thing I can think of without getting in the software/hardware stuff.

Chances are with your new mouse, you installed some software, a cd or floppy, that controlls the mouse ( would be the same as me then, i have a laser mouse)
anyways, in the software properties, you might be able to ajust there.

lol That sounds really frustrating and I’m not even a gamer. I’ll remember not to buy that mouse :P. It’s strange because I’ve never had a laser mouse do that before.

In a nutshell, that’s why I use a trackball. I never run out of mouse pad. In fact, I never even need a mouse pad, or that much space. I prefer this one, but it’s not for everyone. It takes a while to learn to use your thumb for side-to-side motions, but now I’m good at it.

For Cody, I’d try experimenting with different colored surfaces, and lifting the mouse higher. Also there may be a way to lift it up where it “disengages” better, like lifting it on an angle or something.

Your mouse shouldn’t be doing that, I only use laser mice and I’ve never had that problem

I never liked trackballs. I sued them for years, but always got annoyed with them. I much prefer cordless laser.

I usually only pick up my mouse by a cm to replace it on the pad when I have to, like John said, try lifting it up higher. When moving to the left, lift the left side of the mouse up an inch, and keep the right side touched to that mat, and vise versa for moving to the right. Puts the led far from your mouse, and now you have style. =p
