I just bought the first 2 seasons of Land of the Lost (70s version) on dvd! Yeee - Haaaaa!
This is irrelevant for anyone not within a 3 to 5 year age range from me. The show came out in '74, I believe, and ran for a couple of years. I was 9 at the time and it was the best damned show I could imagine. I know it held up, in all it’s cheesiness, cuz a few episodes were shown on TV Land a couple of years ago. I taped them on vhs and the tape is about to die on me, I’ve watched them so often. Granted, it’s usually on a Saturday night around midnight when I’ve had several adult beverages, but this shows rocks.
That sure was one bizzare show. On the one hand it’s pretty basic Saturday morning stuff, hide from the bad monsters, etc. But on the other hand they had some hardcore science fiction in there.
Not sure about hardcore, but the characters were transported not to the earth’s past, but into a totally different world that just happened to be inhabited by dinosaurs and monkey-people. There were time/space dimensional doorways, eerie pylons with cool crystal-tables that controlled the weather, amongst other things.
Don’t count on me for an unbiased view, though. I’m queer for LOTL.
