DT has a really nice long nipple: brass. They have never stripped for me, while the little brass ones have ocationally. The long ones have more thread, more grip, and longer life. Remember to paint your rim before you build it up! Make it look sweeeeeeeet.
Ill try to get pictures for you all.
EDIT: This is really nice, not having a trials uni. Now I have all the time I want to coker and use my freestyle uni! WoohoO!
You already unlaced the wheel? You dont even have the hub yet!
Yep, cause im painting the rim, and now decide to paint the cranks too. =p
Ill have a blue and black DX wheelset. =p
I kinda did it to get away from trials too, cause now all I have to ride is an old schwinn, a sun for freestyle, and a coker. So by the time I get my trials uni built up and rideable. Ill have some new freestyle tricks up my sleeve.
I thought you were going to get a KH isis hub and kranks, and a viz rim (this one? It says 20", not 19", and has 32 nipple holes)
I will have both. =p
I am getting the KH and 36 holed V!Z rim, but because I already prepped my DX rim for painting, I am still gonna paint that, and the cranks.
I totally forgot the DX rim was 48 holes, and its too much trouble, and not strong enough to lace a 48 rim to a 36 hub. It would also cost a lot as I would have to buy 3 lengths of spokes. So im taking the cheaper, better why out by buying a new, ultra nice rim. =p
But isn’t that Viz 32 hole?
Alloy Rim 19" x 36H x 46mm.
Im getting that one. A few riders here have them, and I know rocco uses one on his uni too. =p
dont go coloured nipples keep them brass
found out the hard way on mine
dont get your spokes off the honk kong distributor of VIZ. they sent me the wrong sive so i sent them an email about it and havent heard back in 2 weeks. i had to fork out 50 for their mistake.
How much was your VIZ? I am finding it hard to find them in the states.
Im not getting the colored nipples or spokes. Getting brass and spokes form my LBS. Its a lot cheaper there.
ummmm lemme see.

the KH rims are here!
there pretty cheap too.
Thats really cheap.
O.K. I didn’t scroll down. They have the wrong data in their text then for the rear rim.
I am doing a 4-cross lacing pattern right now.
Usually you go over 3 spokes and under the 4th, then put the nipple on. But I remember hearing about a way to lace 4 cross to make the wheel more resistant to grind impacts.
I think it has the spoke go under the 3rd and over the 4th.
can anyone confirm that? Cause Id rather lace my wheel to be better against grind impacts. =p
Hmm, guess no one knew about the grind impact thing I was looking at, so I did a regular 4-cross pattern.
I gotta say, I did an excellent job for my first wheelbuild. Dished properly, and has about 1mm of wobble on just one side, but I can live with that wobble that you can hardly see.
I took the wheel out today to test my first wheel build, and it felt solid, even on a 5 foot drop I did.
It feels good to have a properly laced wheel that you did by yourself that is still strong. =p
