Several of the UK team wanted to go on the Kyoto tour after UNICON but due to the way it had been organised it could not happen. So we have organised our own. If any one else is also finding problems with the “official tour” they are welcome to join us. Here are the details of what we have organised, just get in touch with me through unicycle.uk.com:
Mon 2nd Aug Kyoto - Shimizu Ryokan
Tue 3rd Aug Tokyo - Shinagawa Toyoko Inn
Wed 4th Aug depart NRT
We would provide 7 Day JR rail passes to cover your journeys from Tokyo to Kyoto and Kyoto to Tokyo and then on to Narita airport.
You would start by using your rail passes to take the bullet train to Kyoto - the journey takes just under 3 hours. In Kyoto I have included a guided afternoon tour taking in Heian Shrine, Sanjusangendo hall and Kiyomizu temple.
Accommodation in Kyoto would be at a traditional Japanese ryokan with breakfast included the next morning.
The next day would be pretty much a full free day in Kyoto before you would take the bullet train back to Tokyo for a final night’s stay in the capital city. I have put in a business hotel stay in the Shinagawa area which is convenient for the bullet train and for your airport transfer the next morning.
On your final morning a direct train would take you to the airport.
To give you an idea of price, the above plan would cost £266 per person based on two people sharing a twin room. This includes:
- 7 Day JR rail pass
- two nights accommodation
- Breakfast in Kyoto
- Half day guided tour of Kyoto
- Info-pack
There would be a discount for children under 12.
