Kris Holm - Tony Hawk

Is it just me or is Kris Holm similiar to Tony Hawk, not only in age and appearance but for what they have done for their respective sports? This entered my mind as I pondered the unicycle computer game I hope to start soon. On that note, anyone with experience in 3d modeling or animation would be a good help, I’m proficient with programming so I’ve got that covered.

One difference that comes to mind: Tony Hawk has invented a laundry list of skateboarding moves and continued to do so well into his career… most notably the 900 demonstrated at the 1999 X-Games. While Kris Holm excels at this sport, he hasn’t innovated moves quite like Dan Heaton or Shaun Johanneson.

I agree…and they’re both maybe not the “best” at either of their sports, but yet are the most famous.

Kris Holm could take Tony Hawk. Tony is pretty old though, i think he’s in his mid 40’s. Like 45 or sumthing. I remember seeing him when he was 42 and that was years ago.

I’d say the main similarity between them is that they both have defined a lot of the equipment related to their sports. Tony Hawk is one of the biggest brand names in skateboarding, while Kris Holm is the same for unicycling.

Other than that, I wouldn’t say they were too similar, for the above-mentioned reasons.

yeah, in a fight between Kris Holm and Tony Hawk, Kris Holm would totally win. the only thing Tony Hawk is better at, is having a cooler name.

Kris Holm is a spunky Canadian, he could kick anyone’s ass.

I would actualy be interested in seeing who is more fit. I would imagine Kris Holm is mainly because of age but it would still be an interesting comparison.

Well Kris rock climbs, and I think does slackrope walking, as well as being somwhat of an endurance athelete, so I would say in theory he would be more fit.

kris is realy skiny ive got money on tony.
plus, you know kris is canadian. thats an imediate dissadveantege
Stupid candians

hmm i must intervine… cause hes definately only 37… born in 68’

Chase

are you crazy man?
Canadians rule!
and Kris is probably sooper strong, seeing as he rock climbs, and does endurance sports.
Kris would win.

w00t canada pride! yeah kris would totally pwn tony. plus unicycling is so much more cooler than skating. but yeah in terms of fitness. does tony rock climb? no! does he ride through unruly forrest terrain risking life and limb just for kicks? no! is tony canadian? NO! nuff said Kris rules.

Tony Hawk was born in 1968, making him 38 if my math is correct. :sunglasses:

Tony Hawk risks life and limb jumping very high.

But I still vote for Kris.

I guess most of the things Tony Hawk does could kill him more easily than what Kris Holm does…but Kris Holm still does sooper dangerous things, like riding along the edge of cliffs, and dropping 15 feet.

True, if you think of unicycling only as “moves” or “tricks”. Most of what makes Kris amazing isn’t caught on film because the X-Games doesn’t cover weekend riding on the North Shore. Kris innovates every time he heads down a slope, as anyone who has seen him ride at a CA or Moab muni weekend can attest. If you need video proof, watch the talus descent from Unizaba or the epic ride down the ancient trading route steps from Into the Thunder Dragon if you don’t believe me. That was true innovation…doing it on the spot, versus practicing the same trick over and over until you can nail it for the cameras.

Plus in terms of “pioneering” for the sport, Kris built–maybe–on the work of George Peck. In skateboarding, Tony Hawk built on a long line of predecessors, including the Dogtown gang, Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta, Jay Adams, Mike Slater, all the pool and pipe skaters of the 70s and 80s. Extreme skateboarding was an evolution, whereas extreme unicycling was very much a revolution.

Just my tuppence.

Only one can have THE REAL ULTIMATE POWER!!!11ONE1!

two things:

Tony Hawk - eight letters
Kris Holm - eight letters

in a fight, my money is on Mr. Hawk, simply because of the reach advantage. Tony Hawk is 6’2", with long monkey arms.

its really weird that this topic came up… every time i watch defect with a non uni rider im always like" thats kris holm, he’s kinda like the tony hawk of unicycles"! he has his own clothing, uni’s he is on lots of videos, and everyone talks about him… and yea he kinda looks like him. weird.
