Kris Holm in Current Science Magazine.

My girlfriend’s younger sister gave me a copy of the Current Science magazine that they handed out in her 6th grade science class.

There’s a pretty big write up about Kris, though its definitely directed towards 6th graders. I have scanned the cover/article and hosted it here:

Interesting. At first I was expecting an article on geology, but Kris had to play physicist instead.

Thanks for sharing the article.

the variety of muni’s in the photos was cool.there was like 3 differant ones all from KH’s progressoin through time and materials.

And they only call it a ‘bike’ a couple of times… I guess that makes it a quadcycle…

Thanks for sharing the article. Does anyone know what kind of pedals he is using? They are displyed in the last picture. The pedals look like the ones I have been searching for for quite some time.

Judging by the pins in the middle and the numbers along the edges of the platform they could be Atomlab “Aircorp” - atomlab.com

Thank you Neil

They are definately not Atom Lab pedals.

They look like the “Man-o-War” pedals that Bronson Silva has on his muni.

I have no idea what company makes the Man-O-War pedals. I did a quick web search and couldn’t find them.

I saw some pedals that looked like those in Target the other day. They’re probably not the same brand, but they looked the same. I thought they looked really cool, but they weighed about the same as your average monster truck. I don’t know how much difference pedal weight can make, but wow.

Pedal weight is a part of what makes a unicycle wobble when you ride fast.
Though all the rotating parts on the unicycle (the wheel unit) are important
for weight, the pedals are even more so. You have to lift them up and down
with each rotation of the wheel, so if you can find a light pair of pedals
that does what you need them to, it can make a big difference. Especially
for racing or long rides.

Re: Kris Holm in Current Science Magazine.

Nice article, good for the sport. On page 2, AFAIK Kris is setting the
world high jump record to 82 cm, not the sidehop distance record.
Oh well, a giant step for (a) man, a small step for mankind.
