Kris Holm Balance Experiment

Has anyone seen This?

How old is it?

“Kris Holm has aquired the balance of a cat and is without a doubt more than human.”

Duh…

I didn’t say it wasn’t dumb I just thought it was interesting.

The show is from 2004. See the thread Kris Holm on Discovery Channel in RSU for the recap. The links to my gallery are dead so use this link instead: Monster Gallery.

that was kinda cool…that trials course for him was probably sooo easy. The people on the show were like WOW!

all but the final jump for me haha

that was so amazing

I wonder if he was really born that way or if you can train yourself to have better balance?

Lol, they think of him as like a mutant or something

I honestly dont even think of unicycling is “Balance
I just think of it as… Practice and skill

I think that video was kind of dumb to be honest. I can stand on one foot with my eyes closed untill my leg gets tired and I don’t think it has anything to do with the balance of unicycling. This video makes it look like his balance is some kind of superpower and that he is only good at unicycling because he has better balance then the average person.

I guess they’re saying every unicyclist that can do that trials course is super-human. Now I feel special.

Haha, if they were unicyclists themselves, the trials course would have been more trechourous.

He is, isn’t he? He could be in an X-Men movie. He’d be one of the good guys of course!

I’d like to agree with that, but over the years I’ve learned that some people are definitely much better at picking up balancing skills than others. Like everything else, some people “get it” more easily while others have to work at it more. That said, most people should be able to do most of what we do with unicycles, as long as they have the time and motivation.

But Kris is definitely part cat.

Ture, Techneique (and fearlessness) is still a huge part of his abilitys

I truely think that everyone starts with a “baseline” of balancing ability and that as you challenge yourself more and more to balance in ways your body has never balanced before, your body adapts and improves… I’ve always had a “good” sense of balance and such, but I didn’t start ou that way I imporved by challenging myself to try something new and see if I could do it. Now the more I practice unicycling and other balance related things the easier it becomes and the more developed my inner ear becomes (or so I think… don’t try to chew me out if I’m wrong just link me to the right sources) Now I can do a lot of balance relatedthings with my eyes closed it’s really almost easier for me to do the stand on on foot and balance thingy with my eyes closed than with them open…

They said at the end his ballance is so good from constantly challenging himself on a unicycle over the past 17 years.

IMO a person is partly born w/ good or bad ballance, but mostly it comes from experience.

I bet those people who learned to unicycle fairly quickly have had lots of experience and gotten quite good at other ballance activities.

For example I read of a pro downhill MTB racer who learned how to ride in 10 minutes. I bet if he didn’t MTB or do any other ballance sports extensively (skiing, skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, gymnastics, etc), he would have taken over a week, just like most of us.
