Knurled cranks

There don’t seem to be any reviews of the new Quax BlackZeroQ cranks on this forum, though Leo did put some barely used ones up for sale a few months ago.

Does anybody have any experience with these cranks, or with knurled cranks generally? Does knurling really make standing on the cranks easier? Would it also take bigger bites out of your shoes or ankles?

The knurling does not make a big difference, grip is pretty much the same as on other cranks, if you really want a lot of grip, use griptape. The crank is good though.

I’m not much of a crank-stander, but it looks to me like the knurling goes in the wrong direction. You would want it to run lengthwise along the crank, to keep a foot from sliding off. Something like a stamped-on texture might be easier to manufacture, except for on the curved areas…

It’s te right way around, sliding forward and backwards on the crank is much more of an issue than sliding of to the side. Tilting your uni will take care of the sideways sliding issue.

Not much for street and crank tricks yet. They came with the new freestyle uni I picked up from Darren Bedford. I have no complaints about them so far as far as good quality cranks but really only rode them a few hours in the gym so far.

So I bought the Qu-ax black ZeroQ cranks (125mm) without the knurling. Goudurix had them on sale at the time. They fit very snugly, and so far they seem nice and strong. They are wide and flat on top, and have steel inserts, which, as far as I know, are not normally available on cranks in this price range. They also came with little steel washers that seem to give the pedal threads some additional protection.
