King Kong

Peter Jackson’s King Kong is by far the best movie in years for pure action and special effects. On these two counts I have never spent 2 3/4 hours more utterly engrossed with my disbelief so totally suspended. As far as I’m concerned he has surpassed The Lord of the Rings by quite a bit.

First the special effects were nearly flawlessly executed. The movements of each and every fictional beast seems completely natural. There is only one questionable scene which even in retrospect appears to have been deliberate.

As for the action, just about every aspect of the story has been taken to new levels which are mind blowing - within the context of cinema, of course - and yet compelling and believable.

I have never enjoyed action and special effects this much. I have never been as diverted by an action picture to this extent. I am in awe.

As for the racial politics of the story, not much has changed and I can only imagine what some activists will have to say.

And without providing any spoilers I will say simply that this movie fails where virtually all of its genre have. The human emotions and character traits such as love, greed, and bravery don’t seem appropriate within the extreme conditions the characters find themselves in.

But as far as pure movie fun goes, this is the best I’ve ever seen. Aliens - the second in the series - has always been my favorite action picture, but this just may replace it.

I personally didn’t like it very much.
it seemed so…fake, and cartoon like, and the acting was way overdramatized.
and the part with the bugs was nasty, oh man, that was horrible.
the part with the scary natives was really cool though, it scared me bad.

I have to disagree with this.

Check out some of the old silents and films from the 30s. This aspect is stylistically in keeping with the period.

Oh, and how could we forget to mention that there is a very brief bit of unicycling at the beginning of the movie. Juggling, too.

i refuse to see this movie based on the fact that Godzilla kicked Kongs ass back in 1962 and i heard there are dinosaurs in the movie…everyone knows those are extinct.

Your loss.

Eh, I heard that the movie had dumb PETA crap in it… or something like that, I dunno…

im going to see it tonight. i hope its good. either that or narnia, but my brother watns to see kong so i gotta give in a little.

PETA?

i really want to watch it just to see the king kong/dinasour fight scene:)

It was totally awesome.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Has anyone seen the King Kong Burgar King Commercials? Its so so soooo sick! This girl eats a burgar… which is bigger than her head. Well, takes a bit out of it, but just the mere size of the burger is nasty.

oh… yeah this may be unrelated… but… I had to say it-its been driving me nuts.

I didn’t see the unicycling, but the juggling definitely caught my eye…actually, after the juggling started, I was watching to see if there was a unicycle, but didn’t see one.

It’s at the very beginning of the Vaudeville show at the very beginning of the movie. If you’ve seen the juggling and not seen the unicycling, then you’ve already missed it. And, needless to say, as far as unicycling goes, it’s nothing to write home about. (Although it is something to waste ink on here).

i saw one with a guy, not a girl and the burger was also nasty huge!

all i can think of is King Kongs 1st dump of the day when i see that pile of meat.

That’s similar to all I could think about when I had to watch Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Yeah, probably a very similar one… tres nasty! I think they should be put off the air… cause WHO would see that and decide to go to BK?

aww… a whole new way to look back on childhood memories… hehe.

I don´t know about your burgers. But we got a triple whopper here in Sweden which is a King Kong Special burger or something. I ate that on for lunch one time. It was really big.

But since you USA guys always wants to be the biggest I bet your King ong Burger is something like a 10xWhopper…

Ooooh this thread was about the movie. Excuse me for the threadjacking.

I saw it last night. I am a big fan of the 1933 original and this movie really respects the original story. There are dozens of scenes and dialogue that pay homage to the original film. I loved it almost as much as I love the original. Naomi Watts is hot, but Fay Wray is much hotter!
I wonder if Naomi Watts really learned to juggle or if they just did that with CGI?

Truly, I am disappointed. Actors will put on all kinds of weight to do a role, but can’t be bothered to learn a few simple circus tricks.

The ape, of course, is the main event in King Kong. But humans count, too.

*On her juggling talents. “I’m no juggler.” They filled in the rocks digitally while her hands move.
