Kickup mount

I am having difficulty with the kickup mount. I put my right foot on the pedal
and when I try to kick up the unicycle with my left foot, it gets stuck about 3
inches off the ground on my leg. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If possible you should learn on a 20" wheel. You can later do this trick on a
larger wheel, but it is much easier to learn on a small wheel. Next, as you
start your kickup, apply only enough pressure to the pedal to keep your foot
there. As the unicycle comes up, your foot should flatten out on the pedal, and
then you can push on the pedal to help put the uni in place. For more

Here’s an exercise that should help. Without the uni, stand on one foot with
the other just off the ground, i.e. in the same position you would be in right
before the kick-up. Now jump up and kick your bum with the foot you were just
standing on and then land on that foot. The foot that is not on the ground
shouldn’t do anything. This is the motion that is needed to get the seat off
the ground.

I think that what you are describing is the hardest part of the kickup mount.
Just after the pedal gets off the ground it gets really tough to move the
unicycle. All your weight rests perpendicular to the unicycle, so for a very
short distance you have to lift most of your body weight. I think it helps to
kind of wrap your foot around the seat and then pull the seat up with your foot.
Don’t be afraid to kick up hard; it won’t be pretty the first few times but
you’ll get the hang of it.
