I bought the KH leg armor a few months ago and have used it a lot for learning flatland tricks.
I find the fabric on the shins is already ripping from pedal strikes. The thread in the seams is coming unraveled. I like the protection and the mobility but not happy with how it’s holding up.
I paid a lot for this. Is this normal, or is it defective?
I don’t use the KH Leg Armour, but I feel the same about the KH Fingered Pulse Gloves - it save my skin and wrist more than once but The fabric is so weak, I have holes on it from a single 36er fall!!!
I keep buying it because I didn’t find unicycling gloves alternative yet…
I used to ride intensively FR bikes, and I don’t remember that I had to replace gloves so frequently…
You know, there seems to be a trade off - the KH Leg Armor {how did we get off on gloves? the question was about leg armor} is a lot easier to get in and out of but my 661s have sure held up better…
I have no problem with mobility. I use them for muni, flatland, and distance on my 36. I moved my handles in a bit on the KH tbar to be able to reach the brake lever better, but really I have no problem with them. I have fingerless and fingered. They are tough, they protect and they were reasonably priced. They show no signs of wearing out and I take a lot of falls on them, esp when practicing flatland tricks.
My original KH Percussion Leg Armor got ripped up the first week I had it when I stupidly practiced unispins with metal pedals, but it has lasted 4 years so far and it still serviceable. It has saved me from going to the emergency room at least a half dozen times. It also protects my legs from tire burn and from less serious falls. I find it bulky and hot but a necessity for many types of riding. I have large and just ordered the new version in medium so we’ll see how that goes. I also have Demon Hyper Knee/Shin X 3DO. It’s more comfortable but doesn’t offer protection to the back of the leg and you can’t remove it without taking your shoes off. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on protective equipment and most of it seems to fray and have the seams unravel fairly quickly.
