KH 07 Questions :)

Hey all,

I have a KH 20" 06 and love it  lol, but the cranks are starting to get a bit of wear and tear…

So i have been thinking of upgrading, and buying the new 07 Moment ISIS Cranks and the Hub, and fitting them to my 06 frame and rim…

Does this sound like it will be all fine? i think it would be  but im also not so sure as to what crank length would be better for trials … ne suggestions ?

Thanx in prior

Tom

Hey Thom.

The 07 hub/crank set fits on the 06 frame just fine (that’s what Luke uses).

The 137mm cranks are pretty fine for trials, you could get the 140mm Onza tensile cranks from UDC NZ if you wanted, but they’re about AU$140.

The hub will fit perfectly just be sure to use some new spokes so that you have a nice strong wheel.

The 137’s are the length that you want.

EDIT- keven got in first

alrite sweet, yea i just spoke to UDC AU thru email and they said that they can fit the new hub to the new 07 rim for me too!

which is good lol

lol
i would hope they could fit the 07 hub to the 07 rim… lol

haha nah i meant to say “they r fitting it for me, so i dont have to worry bout the spokes and the tightening and all that”

oh awesome.

Those wheels are so nice.

Does anyone know how the new 2007 KH hub and cranks are different from the older ones? I am considering getting a 2007 Kris Holm Trials uni, and am wondering why the cranks are constantly changing on every years model.
Also, what is the purpose of putting holes in the rim of the wheel? I don’t seem to see a purpose to it…

The New 2007 KH Hub and cranks have an ISIS splined interface so will not work with the old 32 spline hub or cranks.
The holes in the rim are to save weight, people have been doing this on motorbike rims since the 1980s.

The cranks are also aluminum, and come in the nifty size of 137mm.

because the rim is wider, even though it has the holes it actually is stronger than the older models. It is also much more stable.

Thanks, thats exactly what I wanted to know. Lighter and stronger is always a good thing. However, is there any downside to it? Would dirt, rocks, etc. getting in the holes be a problem, possibly puncturing the tire. This wouldn’t be that much of a problem on a trials unicycle I suppose, however a similar rim is on the KH 24" muni.

The rim tape used on the rims to cover the holes are pretty durable and on tight, so it would be slightly hard to get rocks and stuff stuck in there. You’d also have to have the uni and object at an awkward position to get something to pop your tube through one of the holes. It could happen, but its not likely enough and you shouldn’t need to worry about that happening at all.

EDIT: Welcome to the forums!!!
