Just Conversation Forum is Now Closed to New Users

What a great idea!!!

have you noticed that the new users are clogging up the bandwidth with a lot of crap? If us committed users (what arbitrary number of posts should we pick?) got Gilby to close the Forum to new users, we’d free ourselves to only HIGH QUALITY posts.

If you have more than 200 posts, you can post your ideas about this here.

Billy

Most of those newbies are flash-in-the-pans, and leave before ever making 200 posts.

That’s a cool idea. Although, it may encourage spamming RSU to get 200 (or however many) posts.

How about 82 posts?

I say 3,166. Just a stab in the dark.

EDIT: 3,167

Umm…no…I don’t wanna make this some exclusive, elite club. That’s ridiculous.

Billy, I realize your troll, er, thread is tongue-in-cheek, but in the myriad of discussions we’ve had on this topic, one suggestion sticks out in my mind.

Require a “waiting period” before one can start new threads… it might encourage a new user to search the forum, read through existing threads, pick up on forum etiquette, etc.

Then, again, it might just drive users away from the site. I dunno.

I always come back to the same conclusion. Gilby gives us ultimate freedom in this forum, and that’s just damn cool, even though it comes with a price.

Yawn.

I think Billy starts more than half of the garbage threads. A ban on Billy would be a healthy thing for Just Conversation. I think bans on harper, ħǻřрέŗ, and reprah would also be healthy. We should ban WASPS while we’re at it. Maybe companion animals of gay native Americans.

Nobody knows. But what if driving away a few users with short attention spans leaves us with cleaner, more usable forums? Surely the end result would be less repetitive and garbage threads.

But all such discussion is moot. If you want changes to the forums, as Billy well knows, we can discuss it all we want here, but if we don’t talk to Gilby, and if Gilby isn’t interested, none of it means a thing.

Sorry

If we really had ultimate freedom, we’d all come to this forum with a 6-shot in our holster or a “9” in our belt, and we could chase off those dang varmits what clog up our bandwidth.

Instead, they’re PROTECTED, and we lose our rights!

It’s the immigration debate all over again.

That doesn’t really make too much sense to have people have a certain amount of posts before they can post in a certain forum. From what I have seen, it’s the comfortable ones with many posts that feel they can make any stupid thread they want. Almost like they have a right to make the stupidest, most pointless threads. Granted, I haven’t been here that long but that’s my interpretation on it. And as far as a wait, how many of us have posted and NEEDED an answer immediately so they could make a final decision?

If it is a common reoccurrence for some people to deviate from unicycling or well thought out threads or posts, maybe they should be suspended and each time they do something again their suspension should double.

Just doesn’t really seem fair for the people who mind thier own business to get their privelages taken away because of some idiot who has no life.

maybe that’s a little harsh but… guess that pretty much sums it up

53 seems fair

How about before anyone can post anything they have to pass a test to show they know their way around the forum topics, important links, tutorials, backwards and forwards … like the London Cabbie test. That would end repetitive threads and other dead ends.
I think they call it “The Knowledge” test

I like this forum because there aren’t many restrictions on posting. My inclination would be to keep the rules as they are. (If I may add my two sentimental cents.)

I LOLled!

Silly Billy.

It’s those damn kids monkeyin’ around.

How about they have to be registered for a month or so, before they can post. Or, when they open a new thread, the search function automatically opens.

Why don’t we just close it to everybody and just have Billy preach while we listen?

How about nobody can post on any forum until they have one post?

OOOOO!! That’s sorta Catch-22ish!
