I love the original UK version of the show, “Junkyard Wars,” that’s shown on The Learning Channel (TLC) Wednesdays 9 PM EST (12 PM PST). Two teams of three persons each are given ten hours to build certain devices from the stuff they are able to scrounge from the show’s junk heap.
"It’s a truly revolutionary challenge this week as the teams are asked to make massive one-wheel motorbikes or monowheels. The teams race to build a bizarre vehicle that allows both rider and engine to fit within a single tire. As the brave teams soon find out in our hair-raising test, riding a monowheel is even more difficult than building one.
I love that show
I dont have cable any more but if i did i would watch us.
And lets not forget, the people on the show, are not just your average joe, they are rocket scientists and nuclear scientists
That british host lady sucks though.
How interesting that this show is on next week. One of my co-workers recently approached my asking if I would test pilot a monocycle that he is building. I know not when it will be done but I will be sure to point him towards the show for inspiration/ideas. I will post pics and a full account when I begin test piloting. Do not worry I will wear protection.

Rocket scientists? Nope: they are any assembled group of three similar
people: examples have been 3 guys ex army, computer engineers, 3 guys
who I could best describe as hell’s angels with welding torches etc etc
There were even three vicars on one show. What is amazing is they
invariable come up with the goods, and weird and wacky as the designs may
be, they usually seem to get them working: if not always long enough to
complete the challenge of course.
You will find it is three wrestlers vs. three London Underground (railway) employees doing the monowheels. I am guessing the absolute minimum skill set is welding / fabrication rather than Math skills.
Saying that the last series was won by a team of Jaguar engineers who could weld and make good engineering decisions.
It was a good episode, shown in the UK during November.

And vicars, farmers, fire-fighters and westlers… it takes all sorts to
accept a scrapheap challenge.
I caught the second half of the show the other day. The monowheels they built were pretty impressive looking. The races, however, were dismal.
The machines were vastly underpowered, and the riders were far too timid. Worrying constantly about gerbiling, they only moved at a snails pace, basically walking the machines along with their feet.

Don’t know, but how about Joe Rowling, Harper and Roger Davies. Joes a
pretty good engineer, ditto harper and roger, well rogers always involved
in such daft ideas and he does run a beach buggy so he must be OK at
practicale things like bashing bits of metal together. I suspect those
three could come up with some thing very fast and very strong, it might
not float tho.
If any of those three was not avalible, I’d pick Frank B for the team.
